Visit to Gainesville, FL butterfly museumb

(Maggie) Jacksonvill, FL(Zone 9a)

Here are photos of our trip to the UF butterfly museum July 4 weekend. People said it wasn't crowded but I'd have hated to see more people. It's just so hot.

You are so lucky to have places like that to go. I'm jealous!

Rats! I posted about 10 pics. I'll have to go through them again and re-post. It was a wonderful day- even if quite hot. I bought a great book on FL butterflies and their host plants.

Maggie, the one you titled "jewels on wing" and "saturated color" is really a lovely butterfly! But I'm in awe of the "mourning butterfly"!! Do you know what kind that one is? It's spectacular!

What is this plant?

No Julie, I don't. they had plastic crib sheets but not every butterfly was on there. There were SO many. they weren't limited to Florida B'flies but came from all over the world. Perhaps someone on the list would know. I know it is not the named Mourning butterfly.

Maggie, your lovely butterfly shaped flower is Clerodendrum ugandense http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/1874/index.html

Maggie, thanks for sharing your visit to the UF butterfly museum! Btw, Clerodendrum ugandense should be easy to grow in your zone. I tried it here but, it winter killed.

I want one of those plants! This must be what my mother once saw and we've never known what it was. Now I'll be on a mad hunt for one.

I thought it was beautiful. i'm going to get some.

Wow looks like you had a great time. Hope to get there one day soon. Went to Butterfly World in Fl at Christmas. DH had to drag me out lol.

(Maggie) Jacksonvill, FL(Zone 9a)

It was so wonderful. I saw far more butterflies than I could properly photograph. Where is Butterfly world?

Thanks,

Maggie

Beautiful Butterflies! I didn't know they had such a great butterfly garden in Gainesville.

Butterfly World is located in South East Florida near Cocoanut Creek which is near Fort Lauderdale.

Here is an URL which contains a map:
