Thnak you for the encouragement. I'm still learning how to take pictures of plants. This is a beautiful plant and the flowers last a long time. They reach a height of 5' to 6' and hold up in wind and heavy rain.

Gorgeous! I wish mine would do that. It just wants to dry up.

Try using compost around your plant in early spring. We just had one of the hottest June's on record and my yard only received 3/4" of rain for the month. But I believe that the rich soil keeps this plant going. Also, this plant is now 7 years old and every year more stems come up.

Good to know!

This plant has multiplied in my garden to the point where it is almost invasive. But I LOVE it! It blooms so beautifully and at a nice time of the year.

Hanover Twp., PA(Zone 6a)

Yes, it began to spread in my garden also. But like you I love it but know better. This year I removed the oldest plants and the new ones should stay put for a year or two before they start to spread. I also have moved some to a shade spot to see how they do there.

mgarr, the majority of mine have now "moved over" to almost total shade. The ones in my garden that are in full sun get very tall--some to 6 or 7 feet. The ones in almost full shade only get to about 4-5 feet, but they bloom just as beautifully.

Great! Now I've got another place to plant the divisions!

Happy dividing!

I live in Texas and I planted 5 plants called Filipendula rubra Venusta or Queen of the Night 2 yrs. ago. And 1 has bloomed very lighty 2 times now. The one that has bloomed is about 2 ft. tall and 1 ft. wide the others that have not bloomed are about 1ft tall and 1 ft. wide. I planted them in a place where it is stays wet. But the plants only get about 2 hours of sun. Can someone tell me why these plants are not getting larger and blooming more.

Thanks

Mine grew if full sun and got quite large and began to spread. I moved all of them. Some to full shade with no extra moisture and some with part shade no extra moisture. They are both blooming again and spreading much more slowly. You may just have a short cultivar.
