Wanted:shade plants

Box Springs, GA

I have a shady, wet spot in my backyard that I'd like to fill in.I'd love to trade for plants that thrive in shade, especially ones with showy flowers, but that's not a necessity. Please,no invasive plants:)Pretty much anything else is a go!

Thanks,Chelsea

How shady is it? All day, morning, afternoon? How many hours of sun, if any, does it get?

Box Springs, GA

It doesn't get much sun at all.In the far corners, its prtty much dark all day.In the middle, there is a break in the trees,so it gets just a bit of sunlight.I'm probably going to need plants that really love shade.

There is one hydrangea, Harlequin, that loves moist shade. It's in bloom for me now but it's too dark out. I'll try to remember to photograph it tomorrow. You can remind me, I won't take offense!

Cool:)

It's still wet out but I'll grab my camera and click away. I love this plant and it's in with a fern, astilbe, hosta and some others that get a tad bit more sun that this hydrangea does.
If you do decide to get this particular hydrangea check out the sunniest spot and give it to Harlequin. I know you said it would only get a "bit of sunlight" and that's all mine gets. It should love it there. Either white or pink or dark pink astilbe would go well with it and give you a contrasting shape.

I'll go out now and send photos around 8:30.

I have strawberry begonias that bloom in the spring and would love your site. I also have a couple of toad lilies. Whatcha got for a trade?

Arlene, is your Harlequin the pink and white bloom hydrangea? How old is yours? I can't find them anywhere here.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Just came in from doing my digital "work" and before I go to my film program I will tell you that it's two years old, bought from a local nursery. Now off to do the film work after a cup of coffee.

Pirl...what are the pink pointy things in front of your Hydrangea?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Vernonica. If you need more than that you'll have to wait until I finish this wonderful cup of coffee with sugar and heavy cream. :-))

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

You're not going to believe the difference between your hydrangea and the one they call Harlequinn on the H. Society's website.

That reminds me more of Endless Summer. We can give mine a few weeks to see how it matures and I'll post a photo to show you what it looks like then. I just don't remember it looking like the photo you linked to but maybe it is! Thanks. :-))

Chelsea,

Mail me your trade list again. I didn't keep it the last time we traded. But I have tons of shade plants for your area. Gingers, woodland fern (I'll throw these in for free if you want them), clereodendrum bungii (oh maybe not these might be evasive) colocasia (runners), air potatote vine, brugmansia (Frosty Pink, Jamaican Gold) and more stuff I have to go check everything I have.

Wow! I didn't know brugs could be shade plants! That's exciting to know!

Elizabethton, TN(Zone 7a)

I have sword fern if you want any - post here or Davesmail me.

Box Springs, GA

I would love some! What are you looking for in return?

Elizabethton, TN(Zone 7a)

Whatcha got that you can trade? I'm open to ideas.

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Sequee,

Here in South Texas the summers are too hot 100 degees just these past few day. Brugs will wilt and die in this heat. So morning sun or all day shade is best. No afternoon sun. I've been water my full sun plants every day and still losing some to the heat. Praying for rain.

Daisy
