uploading photos very slow

Ever since my computer was in the hosp, for the woman who helps to uninstall and reinstall Mozilla thunderbird, I have had a problem. She wanter to install Grisoft AVG anti-virus Emails scanner instead of Norton which I had been using.

Now it takes 7 or 8 min for a photo to upload. My photos from my Nikon 4800 Cool Pix are automatically sized to JPEG 873 KB. And I had not been having any problem with that size. Can anyone help me. DonnaS
