Hummer id?

Dry Ridge, KY(Zone 6a)

Is there enough detail in this pic to id this one?

kerry,
It's a female ruby-throated. The females do not have the red throats. That is a lovely picture of monarda and hummer!!

Thanks for the id and the kind words. It was taken through a window, using an old 35mm Pentax with a 70-210 zoom lens and then scanned in. I am trying to locate my 400mm lens and tripod to see if I cant get something with a bit more detail. Oh how I long for a digital that will take these long lenses.

Wish my monarda was red instead of pink. Huge flower!

John,

The variety is Gardenview Scarlet. I have a couple of pots of it I started from cuttings this year. I can try to send you some cuttings or one of the existing rooted cuttings if you like. Not sure how they would ship but you are welcome to it for postage if you want it.

That would be great but, I don't think they would ship well in this heat! Maybe next spring? How tall does it get? My pink one must be at least 3 ft. tall.

Wow! What a great shot! Thanks for sharing it. :)

Welcome to DG and this forum, ConeflowerCate!

John,

You are probably right. I have them in two different spots. One doesn't get as much sun as they would like so they are a bit leggy @ about 4'. The others are shorter, about 3' or so. Drop me an email next spring around mid April and I'll send some your way.

Cate,
You're welcome and thanks.

I will do that. Thanks.
