I thought this made a nice picture. One of my gloriosa lilies climbing on one of my brugs. Too bad the brug is not blooming yet, that would have made an awesome pic.
gloriosa climbing on my brug
WoW! I've never been around Gloriosa Lilies, but after seeing your picture I'm adding this to my wish list! Fabulous!

I agree, that is just unbelievably striking, very different and beautiful. How difficult is it to grow and is it a one time blooming plant??
Very easy to grow. Fairly drought tolerant. Mine bloom for about a month. The blooms are somewhat long lasting too. I love em. They multiply well too.
When should they be planted?? And when do they start blooming??
I keep mine in the ground all year. They are tubers. They start growing in May and start blooming in June.
Lisa, STOP - you're killing us! LOL I have one surviving tuber (THANK YOU!), but it's only about a foot tall, so MAYBE I will see a bloom this year.
How long do they bloom rylaff??? Like daylilies???
Forgot, I know they are tubers, and I would keep mine in the ground, but when do you plant them for the first time, do you do it in the fall or early spring, or does it matter??? TIA!!!!
I cant remember when I first put mine in the ground, but I have dug some up periodically and moved some to other locations, either in the fall or spring. Mine bloom for about a month, although last year was a wierd year and some bloomed twice.
Don't cha love it when one timers are twofers...
You can order them as cut flowers ....... http://www.beautifulorchids.com/xoticflower/orientallily/lily_gloriosa.html
That is just plain old, every day, in your face................. COOL!
Gonna be a hard act to follow and the brug might just decide to skip a couple of blooming phases.
