Yesterday dawned another beautiful warm day in the Southern Interior, so we decided to take the hour and a half drive east over the scenic Kootenay Pass to visit a gardener friend of mine in Creston. We were set to trade some of my Typha latifolia (Variegated Cattail) for some of her Allium caeruleum (Blue ornamental onion), that I have been wanting. Creston is a pretty little city and sits in a wide, fertile expanse of valley and enjoys lovely warm weather that enables an expanse of fruit orchards every where you look and an array of gorgeous flowers and plants. My friend, Shelly's garden is no exception. She gave hubby and I, a tour of her acreage and many lush flower beds. She has a pond with waterlilies that completely cover the surface and full of pale yellow blossoms. Shelly says she never spends much time with it, just "throws the lilies in the pond in spring", some of them just bareroot, and away they go. Anyway, I took a couple photos, I thought I'd share.
Sunday in Creston
I've been to Creston several times and fell in love with the area. In fact, it is one of the places where I would consider retiring to. The nature reserve there is a bird-watchers paradise. There is a nice nursery just down the road from the Bavarian Orchard Motel on the main road through town. I picked up an azalea there years ago.
I saw that nursery on our way by, Todd. But DH said "No way". Turkey! Doggone, those are times I wish I was alone. LOL
Yes Creston is a pretty place and second only to the southern Okanagan in Fruit production.
Cool!!!! I had wanted that one too, but such is life. I am actually thinking of trying to make some out of hypertufa-as if I didn't have enough to do!!!! LOL
