My b/f built a garden box for me in the front yard. I bought a few plants and shrubs for it recently. One of the shrubs I bought was a beauty bush. Would anyone know if it would be okay to place it in the garden box? After checking some of the resources on DG, it seems these shrubs need a lot of room and grow quite big. Any advice?

Hi Sugarshokt! Ü
Welcome to Dave's and the Canadian Gardening Forum!!!
It's not that we're ignoring your post......I think those that have been on so far just don't know. We have a number of Ontario and higher zone members that hopefully will show up soon.
Please tell us a little about your garden while you are waiting for someone to come along. If no one does there is a Tree and Shrub Forum for you to post your question in as well http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/tas/ You can also go to your member page and fill in your zone...if you don't know it Ceedub (Cristine) will be along with a link to help you figure it out. Filling in your province's name will also be of benefit to members here.
Sugar, another excellent souce is Todd Boland. I have always gone to Todd for advice with my tree and shrub questions, and he has proven to be very helpful. Hopefully Todd will see this post.
Good Luck!

Beauty Bush can get VERY large...nearly as large as a standard mock orange (Philadelphus)...I've seen some in newfoundland that were 12 feet tall, so I imagine they would get even larger in Ontario.....it is much too large for a garden box. What were the other plants you bought for the box? You should stick to shrubs that will stay under 4 feet such as the semi-dwarf weigela, spirea, potentilla, etc. One word of advice...raised boxes are a more extreme environment that the open ground so always select plants that are one zone hardier than your zone. i.e. if you are zone 6, then make sure the plant is hardy to zone 5.
thank you for the advice, I think I might have a place for it somewhere in the backyard:)
yes, sugar............my Callicarpa(Beauty Bush) or Kolkwitzia.....which one is it, is already at 10'...so I agree with Todd......Elaine
