I've only ever seen this plant available at one nursery called Chipchase Castle gardens which is in the north of England - they have a website but I'm not sure if they do mail order or post outside the UK. I'm so pleased I bought it. I've left the stems as they are so I'll see if it does produce seed and if so I'll let you know!

Oh please do...that would be an absolute treasure if it did!!! I bet you are glad you bought it..,.did you know how very pretty it would be, or were you pleasantly surprised??? What a great find!!

I think this was a plant with which I was pleasantly surprised - I just liked the description of the purple throat and it is one of my best buys. I'm just going to go and check for seed pods!

Let ther be seed pods....Let there be seed pods....Oh, oops - did I say that out loud?? I meant to say How nice it is to be pleasently surprised by a plant....:)

Jealous Jamie LOL :o)

ps.....Look at that...these flowers seem to have a nice purple throat. Hmmmm, wouldn't that be cool to plant something near-by that echo'd that??? ( I am in a silly mood - must be the heat) :o) ~ J

There are seed pods - lots of seed pods! Your plant is lovely - is it mock orange (philadelphus)?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8b)

Yes it is.....P. 'Belle Etiole'.....smells wonderful, of course, but also has the lovely purple blush in center...:) Sounds like another plant I know...LOL :o)

That really is a stunning plant Ann. Did you see it growing at Chipchase or did you just buy it from the description? It's wonderful.

And beautifully photographed!

As far as I remember I bought it from the description - it was May 2002 so it wouldn't have been in flower. Good choice or what!

kniphofia ~ isn't she lucky??? I have looked, and looked. This gorgeous plant isn't anywhere in this country!! There are some very pretty plants in Galanthophiles garden that are not yet available here --- I love looking at her pics, except then I go try to find the plants...no luck...:( Maybe someday!! :o)

Jamie - I go hunting far and wide for plants and try to find more unusual things than are found in the standard garden centres. It is worth hunting in the smaller nurseries as they have some gems.

BTW Kniphofia is my twin sister and I have alot of her plants from when she used to live in the UK!

Oh my goodness!! What a gorgeous plant in the campanula family.

May I be put on your list for seeds from it?

I love to frequent large or small nurseries, say from June on. Never know what you can find. Earlier in July while visiting friends in the twin cities [Minn. and St. Paul] I found 4 that I had been looking for, say like 5 yrs.

You have many beautiful flowers that you have posted.

Galant ~
That is so funny that kniphofia is your sister...twin sister even..LOL Maybe she knows more than I what cool plants you have...:)

I also hunt all over for my plants...large nurseries, small nurseries, one person-back yard nurseries, and little out of the way places that I often find the coolest little gems not being sold anywhere else. My idea of a cool weekend is to go out, armed with a map, phone numbers, and Mapquest directions, to find nurseries I have never been to!! Sometimes I can wander for hours in a neat one, other times I wonder if a sinister guy is luring his victims to him by advertising as a "nursery", they can be run down & spooky, and way-way-way of the beaten path...:)LOL

And catalogs, don't even get me started on my tower of catalogs....from all over the country and beyond. I am a self-diagnosed, hopelessly addicted plantaholic!!!

So it's not just me then!

No, if it's a disease, it's very contagious....LOL :o)

One of my finds I ordered from Canada....couldn't find it here...:) (Mertensia)
