Problem with photos loading

I posted this in Dave's Garden forum, maybe I should have posted here. Any advice?......

On a new computer and downloaded Picasa from google to help me edit snaps, etc. When I browse for a photo to post, it appears in the Browse box correctly, but when I hit Preview, the Browse box goes blank.

Is it a setting on my computer that I'm missing or does Picasa create difficulties? Thanks for any help.
