Something to be aware of

Very interesting. How frustrating would it be to see something that you were dying to rebut or contribute something to and couldn't cause you haven't given Dave a few dollars. Good one Dave.

I think many will be thinking twice about what they post now. We've always had some subscribers that stay quiet but now that it's wide open....

After reading that thread you linked to, I see some people are under the impression that members can read all the threads now. There are a couple of forums that only Subscribers can read. But the ones that are open are not just open to Members that aren't paid subscribers, they are open to be viewed by the whole wide world.

Those of you that have posted things that you wouldn't have put up on your own website for the world to see, should be aware that anyone can see the information or pictures now. If your address or family pictures are floating around out there and you are not happy with the situation, edit your post or ask to have the pictures/threads removed.

Non-subscribers can read *all* of what's posted in the Canadian Forum (I didn't try every forum here). Just log out and come visit while you are logged out.....it used to be that you could only read the first post (that isn't the case any more).

Not just non-subscribers, lilypon. You don't even have to be a member, from what I can tell. If you are logged out, wouldn't that mean you are just like Joe public?

Yep that would be even better wording echoes.

I'm busy editing my posts and I'll keep at it unless things return to the way they were.

I think this should be kept at the top of our forum.....interesting discussions are being held in the thread in the above link.

It's been open for awhile....about a week ago I did a search on google and one of my threads, in its entirety, was open to everyone.

Thanks for raising this in this forum, Pam. I've seen several other peeps do the same thing in their favourite forums. It's a good idea, considering there doesn't seem to have been a lot of official publicity about it.

Now I'm trying to think back over all my posts in the last year (!), and wondering what to remove. I would say certain things in a gardening club that I wouldn't necessarily put in the Globe and Mail for the whole world to know. To have them opened up and published in the Globe and Mail after the fact, without my knowledge or consent, is an unsettling feeling.

It is very unsettling.....I always felt more secure with a group of gardeners that have become online friends. I am also thinking about doing some of my own deleting. I've asked Dave to remove one of my threads all together.

What do you think, Pam - should a Sticky be requested for this one, so as to make all Canadian Gardening participants aware?

Dave just replied in the other thread.....I don't think so. We will keep bumping it up until a decision has been reached.

I personally don't mind if the Plant Forums are open but the Regional ones and some of the others I think should be kept private. In the European one I'm sure some members would be very upset to find it's open to all and sundry now.

I will be happy to share the bumping duties.

Thank you! :)

Dave reversed the decision.

Now I can get back outside to the garden! :-)

Think maybe he got tired of all the edits? I know I did my share. Right now you can't use that option.
