Need a dwarf hydrangea

Port Lavaca, TX(Zone 9a)

In another thread I ask about plants for a late Oct. wedding. My niece would really like to have hydrangea plants on the tables but they need to be short. And bloom in late Oct. Is there a cultivar that could fill that discription? They want to plant them at their home near Austin after the wedding.

Hydrangeas are spring bloomers. There are 2 new cultivar that have a second flush of blooms in late summer, but they are very expensive. Sometimes greenhouses can force plants to bloom at odd times. Have you contacted your local florist to see if that is possible.

One other idea did occur to me. If you don't have to have the real flower, you could have small pots of the real plant with an artifical hydrangea bloom embedded near the stem (trimming the artificial stem to an appropriate heigth). After the wedding, they would just pull the bloom out and plant the hydrangeas around their home. Or if you can find hydrangeas in bloom, you could try drying the flowers. However most will lose their bright color.
