How do you spell M I TE. My first guess....................................

Anything weird like that I start by spraying with Neem. And I would do the other side too. LOL, I always think MITE first and then work my way back. Gosh how I hate those nasty bugs Neem is not an insecticide, so it won't hurt using it if it isn't. Do not spray it in the sun though if you go this way!!!

Such a pretty plant Linda.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

It's one of yours, Kell. I sprayed everything again today. It's too hot for me to use Neem here now.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Not an expert by any means, but I am becoming one on Mites. I agree with Kell. I get up at about 5 am to spray Neem or whatever!!! Gosh...I hate them!

I have a couple of plants that looks like this, I have no way to get Neem but I did buy some oil that they said was the same thing, it is called All Seasons Spray by Bonide. I have sprayed but it hasn't made a difference, and I found NO bugs.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I agree with Carol. Spray early morning or late evening while you still have enough light to see

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

You gotta keep it up...

I strip all the big leaves and then spray. I am conquering it....I think... Oil/Soap works too...as long as you can keep spraying to suffocate the newly hatched eggs.

Darn.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Double darn.

Linda, having been through this last year, and again this year, I'm going to stick my neck out and say that it looks like chemical burn. Have you seen mites?? If not, I'd use something very mild, and topical, for mites and then neutralize possible chem burn by avoiding anything other than water or light nutriments and, or superthrive. Of course you might not have used any chemicals, or fert, etc - my problem was, I think, that it's been very dry and, without knowing for certain, I believe some of my plants really dried out and when I used regular fert or bug stuff that it was too strong for a dry or semi dry plant they burned, looked like yours, like spinach, and eventually some burned on the leaf edges, but only on some brugs and they were all treated the same, same watering chem, fert, etc. I dunno. I surely hope you find the answer!!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

The thing that stumped me, Sherry, is that one half of the plant looks fine and the other half looks crinkly. The crinkly part is more out in the sun and the other part gets shade from plants above.

Linda, I have not had trouble with Maya, except early leaf burn, that just hit her around the edges of some leaves, she is okay now. But I have other brugs such as you describe, say there are three stalks coming outta the ground or the sides of the plant - two will be just fine and the third has spinach leaves - last year, I would have used yet another mite remedy, but this year (after I've probably already burned them up) I'm not going to use anything ELSE for mites, I'm going to water them another week with no fert and only use weak nutriments and SuperThrive. It cannot make things any worse. I have begun to take out brugs that are just looking awful and put other seedlings and rootings in the ground and try not to do the same thing to them. I'm going to used a slug treatment that doesn't go on the plant and dust the cats. I have had leaf hoppers and leaf rollers, that have done some damage, but I picked most of them off and no more have taken their place, yet. And, I'm going to make sure the plants are well watered before I use weak fert and nutriments. Tell me - I"ve been told that too much fert might disrupt my pH balance. Can too much bug treatments, like systemic, sevin, other poisons, hurt the ground and damage plants and make it look like bugs/mites did it?? I don't use poison on my annuals and they ONLY suffer from overwatering, lol...

That definately looks like mite damage. I have always hasd luck with Ortho systemic applied at regular 2 week intervals for 2 months or more. They are tenacious little critters and their eggs will survive the initial sprayings so it is imprtant to keep on schedule with the sprayings.

These ugly leaves eventually fall off and the plant resumes normal looking growth. But the same symptoms will reappear just when you think the problem is gone. They never go away and stay away if left untreated. Before I treat my plants with Garden Safe Fungicide 3 I totally strip the plant of its leaves and I use my fingers to gently scrub the stem and growing tip. Works great so far. In my experience the older a brug plant gets the more resistant it becomes to these horrible mite critters. Thank goodness!

Check for aphids too. Some aphids live in tiny little groups on either side of the leaf blade right where the leaf stem is attached to the leaf. You would never know the sneaky little creeps were there if you didn't put on your best glasses :) and search for them.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

According to my mentors here...you need to change your products after 4-5 usings...Making the rounds with Neem today...last application was Avid....roundandaroundandaround we go.....

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I wonder if we will all die young from these sprays. Saturday I got myself totally covered in Neem, even in my mouth. Went for sushi that night and all evening I kept telling my husband the sushi tasted odd.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Kell, the neem I have is organic. It even came with recipes for shampoo etc. I don't think they use it on sushi 'tho.

I think Maya has pulled through what ever was going on. I suspect nutrients or sprays. It has put out new leaves that are fine.

Your new leaves look really super. What did you find out it was?? Mine was definitely chemical burn. Oh, I had a couple of leaf rollers, and a few cats, but that's about it. My aunt has 5 short, Watermelon Red crepe myrtles, that are short, covered in blooms. By chance she she checked them and said that she didn't know there were that many whiteflies in the world, so thick she had to cover her mouth and eyes to get rid of them. So, I'm thinking I don't have whitefly (all digits crossed) because they are all in her crepe myrtle, I LOVE my Natchez White crepe myrtle because they are disease/bug resistent...

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

I have no mites or white fly but man I could populate the world with thost stinkun fuzzy mealybugs E-GADS!!
