I'm planning on digging a lot this weekend - time for that upper-body workout! The Yellow Ginger is Hedychium flavescens, a really fragrant ginger that grows 5'-6' and is a great naturalizer. The White Callas (Zantedeschia aetheopica) are the traditional ones, grow to 3'-4' tall and have solid green leaves. Super easy to grow, they go dormant when it gets dry and sprout again when they get water.
The Fuschia is a particularly rugged one - grows well, and I've never seen it affected by those pesky Brazilian mites that deform so many other fuschias. The inner petals are a deep fuschia pink, and the outer petals (sepals?) are pale pink. I only have a couple of rooted plants; I can also send unrooted cuttings if you're brave and your thumb is green ;-)
I have some Papyrus I'll be dividing, too, so let me know if you're interested in that. Also very easy, these guys get tall.
Oh, I also will be digging out a bunch of Chasmanthe (it's like Crocosmia on steroids) if anyone wants some of those as well. Let's just say they take "naturalizing" to a whole new level . . . (note: whip and flamethrower not included in this offer.)
I'm looking for a variety of things. Stuff I lost over the winter include: Texas Star Banana, Musa 'Basjoo', Hosta 'Komodo Dragon', and a great variegated Hibiscus. I'd love to replace them (sniffle). Pond plants and floaty stuff I don't have (has anyone EVER had a Water Mosaic plant survive a trip through the mail??), stuff I don't even know I need yet ;-) I'm also interested in strange and (not necessarily) beautiful plants - variegates of all sorts, stinky aroids, a prickly Madagascar Palm, you get the idea. But try me - I'm open to all kinds of possibilities. I'm also happy to trade quantity for quality - if you have a small bit of something rare or unusual, I'd be happy to send you a whole whack of stuff in trade. Thanks!

I'd love some yellow ginger. I have white butterfly ginger, and it smells heavenly. My neighbor has a variegated hybiscus, with med. size (3") red flowers. Does this sound like what you're looking for? I could try to root a cutting. I also have a variegated sweet potato vine that has purple new growth. It's really pretty. Sound tempting?

i really like the chasmanthe a lot!
I am very interested in the papyrus (especially the tall one!) and possibly the chasmanthe if I can store it over the winter. I might have a banana or two for you. :)
you got mail :)
Phew! (pant pant) You ALL have Dave Mail! And naien and Kaleem, thanks so much for posting links to images. I **love** that feature! OK, here we go! Wheeeeee!
Chris
you have mail
And BTW, the Chasmanthe I have is the orange one pictured in Kaleem's first link.
You have mail...
Anyone know for sure if the Chasmanthe bulbs will survive my winters and come back in the spring? If not, can these bulbs be dug and stored for spring or late fall planting in a zone 7 - 8 area? Thanks
Chris,
What about a baby Century Plant for a bulb or two of your Chasmanthe? Nancy
I must be nuts because I have to move and don't need anything else unless it is a dorment bulb.

Has anyone heard anything futher from THGA? I tried to send mail but no response since July 4th. Not sure what is going on...
JanetS
Hi, I would love some calla lily to put around our pond. We just moved here this year and so I don't have a lot to trade yet but hope to have more at time goes on and I learn more. We have a lot of hydrangeas which I'm hoping to root up to have for trading. Also a lot of lily of the valley which I can dig up now and pot up. I have moved it at this time of year before and it did well.
Unusual stuff? I have some yellow tree peony but the seed pods aren't ready yet and may not be til fall. I'm just checking them often and waiting.
I have a tree anemone which is carpenteria californica. I have no idea how to propogate it but if I could find out, it is a really lovely shrub that everyone comments on.
I have hollyhocks in a pretty pinkish shade but of course the seeds won't be ready yet.
I have a *lot* of packaged seeds that I bought this year but didn't plant them all. I can make up a list later if you are interested.
Thanks,
Gwen
I hope he has not gone far from home. I mailed out two nice banana plants on Saturday and am expecting a box myself. :)
I just read this and thought "OMG, I forgot to send out her trade!", Went back to read our communications and saw where I responded to her with an offer and then never heard back from her. That was July 4th. This isn't like her. Hope she's O.K. In the mean time I'll hold her plants for her until she decides if she wants them.
Well, I hope she is okay too. I am like you , I will just wait and see if she shows up soon. If anyone knows her phone number or email maybe they could find out what is up. In the mean time, prayer helps everything! So I will be praying all is well!
Janet
I am thinking I saw another post where a bunch of trades were offered then THGA slid off for a week or so to do a business move or something and then came back to take care of business. Maybe something else came up and they'll be back soon. :)
Has anyone heard from Chris yet? I sent a Dmail the other day to see if everything was okay and asked that they post here so we knew what was going on. I have not received a reply.
Nope.
All I can say now is that she must be knee deep in boxes and plants. LOL I still have not heard from her but my trade from her showed up about an hour ago. Thos are some of the largest roots and bulbs I have ever seen!
Chris, wherever you are hiding, THANKS FOR THE TRADE!
Well, I hope mine does too. I just didn't know whether to send hers or not, afraid she may not be home to get it...what do you think? Just send it and wait and see? I am very excited about our trade too.
I am definately happy with what she sent me. I got the Chasmanthe and the giant papyrus potted up and had to use huge pots. Everything looked very nice and the papyrus was making new roots in the bags. LOL
cool..did you just send your trade without knowing whether she would be home or not? Just curious. It is so hot I am reluctant to send boxes till I let someone know what and when I am sending it...what do you think? Send, or wait...
Hi, I am in Livermore, so we are neighbors. I was just wondering if you had heard about the Daves Gardens trade that is going to be held in Castro Valley in Sept.
If you are interested, you could go to the Calif. gardening forum here on Daves for more information.
Patricia
Hiya, Chris--if you're still looking for a particular variegated hibiscus, I do have a baby Thompsonii 'Snow Queen' that I could trade.
LMK,
MKJ
I owe Chris a trade and have been been getting no reply to my DG emails (for several weeks now). Has anyone heard anything yet?
Thanks~
Sandy
I know Chris did make a move, (office not home) early in the month but was done with that. I received a trade and sent one or postage can't remember.
Look at Chris' home page here at DG, comments way down on the bottom left. Then take it from there.
Chris, when you check in, do you have any Fuschia left? If so, I'll figure out what I can tempt you with.
Molly
:^)))
Chris does "wear many hats"! I am just patiently waiting, since I know how time slips aways so quickly, when we are trying to do so many things at once! So, whenever you get to me Chris, I will get your end of our trade prepared and ready to ship. Since school is starting soon, perhaps you have been busy with preparations for your classes to start as well. Hope all is well.
JanetS
Anyone heard from Chris?
Do you still have any Chasmanthe left? Do hummers like it?
Diane, if you don't get an answer, I should have a few extra to share.
