Tonight I had a special night.
Year after year, the kids come and invade my neighbor's cherry, apricot & apple trees across the street. They are in the parking strip, and sometimes the kids can be very rude and leave quite a mess. The neighbors own a very busy business and are seldom there during the kid hours, and I've been the one to keep them from climbing into the trees and breaking the branches. The neighbors like that kids get some fruit, but we have to be careful. So last year I started bringing them over some stepping stools to help them get up so they don't have to climb into the trees.
I did so tonight, and one of the kids recognized me and said "hey, I know you! I sold you popcorn last year"!
Indeed, he was one of the boyscouts, and I remembered I'd bought carmel corn from him last November and that he tried to get me to buy $100 instead of $20.00. I'd told him he was quite the salesman in fact, with a chuckle.
Well that kid was SO SWEET today, offered to cleanup the mess they'd made, put away the stools, broom & scoop. I went into the house momentarily and the three were entering my front porch and I heard........."WOW"!!!!!
They saw my little tropical porch, so hidden from the street.
It really meant alot to me to see their appreciation for it, and my guess is that it was like an enchanted forest to a child.
Those kids made my day! You gotta love them!
Next time I see them, I will offer them some seeds to start their own. I believe with a little encouragement but no pressure, we can keep our growing traditions strong.
