Ball Cactus
Parodia magnifica
June 27, 2005 - blooms more than once a year for me
Ball Cactus (Parodia magnifica)
Can these grow in any zone?
I remember growing p in the 50's that my grandfather had some catus in our outdoor garden but don't know the type. They had pink blooms and seemed to multiply.
I'm not certain, but I would imagine that this kind can't take much weather. My parents in PA (not too far from Wheeling) have a prickly pear that survives the winter there, but it has yellow flowers.
how old does it have to be to flower?
I don't know for sure but I'd say about five years old. The plant in the picture was around five inches in diameter when the picture was taken.
