I meant to post this a month ago when we first got 'doggie', and then forgot about it until I was going through some pics on my computer today...
This is Aiden (the new dog) and Nikolai (cat) on Aiden's first night with us. DBF and I had just laid the dog's bed out on the living room floor, for him to sniff and inspect....he happily went over to it and plopped right down. Then, DBF and I left the room and went upstairs for literally about 3 mins. We didn't hear any barking or hissing, but we came back to find this....guess it didn't take long to see who's "King"! lol
Also....Nikolai has 4 more feline friends in our family...poor doggie, he can't ever win, only one of the 5 cats actually 'likes' him, but I have to admit over the past month, they've all gotten much better around him. He is a rescue from the local shelter here. Started out as a foster dog, but we just fell in love with him. He's house trained, sleeps all night long on the bed with us, knows a few tricks and easily is learning more, likes the cats even though they don't like him (lol), and is just in general a great dog. I don't know why anyone would have ever given him up, but we feel very blessed to find such a perfect fit for our already big fur-family.
And one last thing....do any of you have animals that are problematic if a tv or radio is NOT left on while you're gone from the house? In the first few weeks of having Aiden, we got reports from a roommate who goes home from work at lunch, that Aiden was barking non-stop all day, just working himself into a tizzy. Before going and buying one of those expensive collars w/ citronella or a shock, we put him in the bedroom w/ the tv on. Problem solved! :) He no longer barks all day, he just lays out on the bed relaxing and listening/watching tv. I guess any human voice is better than none, when an animal is lonely like that? I'd love to hear if anyone else has similiar experiences.
