This morning I found this vine growing up my cedar hedge. It seems vaguely familiar and it may have been something I tried to grow from seed and did not get any germination and then tossed the soil into the compost (I do that a lot !). Or is it a weed? (albeit a pretty little one)

ID please
Heather - I got the same vine at a local plant swap this year and was told it was Climbing Nightshade (Solanum dulcamara). I wanted to fill a blank wall and it is hardy in my zone but I was warned that the plant is poisonous and self seeds very readily. I have it planted in a raised bed against the back of my garden shed so it will be contained and it is also out of reach of our pets or any children.

As soon as I read Susan's id I remembered it's other name Deadly Nightshade! Here's what Pllantfiles has to say about it: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/68211/index.htm Scroll down to the members comments at the bottom of the page.
Heatherbelle, luv your Himalayan Honeysuckle. I bought some seeds to try but I haven't planted them yet. I hope they are easy to start.

Hi, the other compost recovery items ( the NewZeland flax) you allowed us to take home is coming along nicely! I potted it so that I can baby it here and overwinter inside but it is spending the summer out in the garden.
Lilypon said hers is coming along too.
Thanks again and will send photos when i get further into the cyberworld and get a digital camera.

Ingrid and I got in on that "New Zealand Flax from the Compost " as well. Mine was slow to show any new growth and I was worried as I had cut mine down pretty severely to fit in my suitcase, and when I got home the experts said not to cut them at all. But after 6 weeks or so in a South flower bed getting gallons of water and food, it finally took off. I have mine in the ground cause I am going to try winter it outside this winter. I 'm going to literally bury it in mulch along with my Camillia Tree and then do a lot of praying. ;-)
Glad to hear everyone's New Zealand Flax is doing fine ! Have you seen the price of that stuff in the stores ? It was definitely going to the big compost in the sky so I am glad it was rescued. That was so funny, hauling it out of the compost. LOL
Mine has been flowering for the past month - weird sort of blooms - kind of like very, very, tiny bananas.

Really, blooms already! If you have the time, Heather, will you post a picture of it?
