I love Gold Standard and Elegans both.

Here are some of the dahlias I have to offer: Cafe au Lait (dinnerplate), Yellow Star (fringed), Star Elite (fringed), Seattle (http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/40822/index.html) , Poeme (bronze leaf), Golden Emblem (dinnerplate), Bishop of Canterbury and Color Spectacle (http://www.hirts.com/cgi-local/catalog.cgi?cat=2,13,195,)

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

Are you serious....? LOL. I would love some more dahlias but I never dreamed you would want these...:) At present, I have glenbank twinkle, seattle and 3 unknowns.

If your address is in the exchange...I will send you these in the morning early about 8:30..they should arrive on Sat but I will package them so they will be okay if they did not arrive. I'll get right back to you and let you know which dahlias appeal to me the most and you came send what you think is fair ? :)

Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6a)

Hey Charlotte be a dear and send her some for me.. then I can send you irises for dahlias... Just enabling us all... ;o) LOL

I don't have hostas yet but I am making a run tomorrow to local nursery. Will see what they have maybe I can find something off your list.

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

yes...we must all share around and support each others habits !!!!

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Charlotteda,

It's more about sharing than it is collecting. It all belongs to God anyway. I just like spreading around the beauty.

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

with that attitude....I've sure you are blessed in many ways...plants and otherwise :)

Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6a)

I think the garden is just God's way of reminding us to smile everyday and not take anything for granted because tomorrow it may all be gone. When we find people with common interests and beliefs makes it even more fun!

Roni,

So many friends and neighbors tell me about the beautiful flowers we "grow" and I always tell them that "God grows the flowers, I just water and feed them". How can anyone take credit for God's work?

Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6a)

You're so right pirl. We can't every take credit for anything that God does. But some water, some plant, and others harvest. Awesome cycle. I myself seem to be a waterer. ;-)

Once, visiting New Orleans, I came across this courtyard and the lady had her business there. She sold cast iron decorative pot holders. As I watched her spraying some of those that were planted and saw her washing down the steps with the hose I was in awe of her total peace. I ended up buying two of the wall pot holders and now I have my own courtyard and there is no greater peace for me than watering everything down.

When the dogs are in the kitchen and Harry, the Lhasa, jumps up on the bench DH made to fit the bay window and Harry spots me with the hose, he barks. When I point the hose at him and it hits the window he ducks and runs to the other side and I get him again and again. Very relaxing for me - good exercise for him!

You can see the wall pot holders in this shot.

Pirl,

What a wonderful courtyard you have. You can't tell me those are hostas up against your house. If they are you don't want to see mine, lol lol lol

That photo was of the New Orlean wall hanging pots in the back of the house. Yes, that is one of two hosta fields of Plantaginea. We love the scent so much we just have about 100 in each bed. Then, along the rear property line, probably another 200 along with more of other varieties. Still another hosta bed is under the kitchen windows. I'll see what photos I can find before I slip off into dreamland. Today was a long hot one for both of us!

The courtyard is in the front of the house and I'm sure I have photos of that, too. None of our 29 gardens was "too much" long ago but they seem to grow each year and now we're thinking about cutting back before we end up sleeping outside!

Most of the rear terrace is in this shot.

Part of the hosta garden under the kitchen windows but I've added to it with purchases and trades since this shot was taken in early June.

Part of the courtyard but it doesn't show all the overflowing pots.

I am so sorry for hijacking this thread. Here I'm sitting in dreamland after working outside with DH all day and I just went off with pictures. I apologize.

I realize (now) that this is dahlias and I do have 20 growing but Elizabethtown wanted hostas and if you need any just Dmail me!

I don't mind at all. I thought the pictures were lovely.

Carla I have one that isn't on your list but I don't have the name handy. I'll check and get back with you:>)

Hi, Carla
I haven't checked Plant trading lately. Do you have any that are smaller/shorter? You have to lift them in the fall, like cannas?

You have a great collection of hosta? Come on over on the Hosta forum, I never see you post there.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Judy - where are your hostas?

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Unless you're in zone 8 or higher, you have to lift your dahlias in the fall. Most of the ones I have are 32" and taller.

I used to post on the hosta forum a lot, but haven't been there in awhile. I'll stop by for a visit - thanks for remining me. :)
