Any body from East Texas?
East Texas
I'm from Gladewater.
Hey, welcome to Dave's Garden, EASTEX!! Do you own a nursery (or does your home just resemble one?)lol
We have a couple of recent members in Tyler - wysocki3 and shirleygirly . I looked on the member list and found some others, but haven't seen them posting on this forum. Sometimes people who have been here for awhile aren't aware that Dave gave Texas the first regional forum. (I stumbled on it, myself!)
mydaisy is in San augustine, jdee is in Paris, jameso is in Longview, berryman19 is in Carthage, brendabloomer is in Center, tuttnbecky is in Lufkin (gee, what happened to Nacogdoches, Kilgore, and Marshall?)
Hope you get a response from some of them. If not, maybe drop them a line and invite them here for a talk. We're friendly!
Again, welcome!!
Yes I do own a wholesale nursery in Tyler
I am near Dallas but get out to Marshall and Canton every chance I get.
wholesale nursery - I would love to start something like that but alas I am a teacher for the time being... Maybe at some other point in the future.....a nice little place - ahhh
catlady, good to see you, how did I ever miss Gilmer (your registered location?)
From the fourth grade to graduation I lived in Marshall, went to college in Nacogdoches. It's been a few years since I regularly ran around those roads, found it hard to remember the names of cities and towns that would fit the "East TX" designation.
EASTEX, do you specialize in a certain plant, or do you grow just about everything? I suppose everyone assumes that all nurseries in Tyler are growing roses.
Mitch, who do you know in Marshall?
We don't grow roses or fruit trees. There are enough of those growers around allready!
The Richards in Marshall - she was the haed painter for Marshall Pottery for years so we hae a few (maybe more then a few) of her works here at the house.
tyler is rose capital in texas yes?
Welcome EASTEX! You must have the greatest job. I'd love to trade with you, want to work in the probation office. I'd love to play in dirt all day. I'm from Center, not that far from you. You should have lots of seeds to trade with the rest of us.
EASTEXASNURSERY, are you the nursery coming into Tyler on Hwy 271N? Sounds like we have enough folks here for a garden get-together and/or plant swap. kelly333 is from Longview and I believe she has mentioned a couple of others from Longview also. arptiger and etexbill are from Arp and Lindale.
Yes, Maggiemoo, my address is Gilmer, but I live closer to Longview and Gladewater than I do Gilmer.
I just even forgot that Gilmer is in East TX. Wow, I'll have to look at a map and re-acquaint myself!
Mont Belvieu here. #0 miles east of houston.
But without looking at a map I feel I am really far from all of you.
Blessings,
Sandy ^8^
It is suppose to say 30 miles.
And a BIG welcome here also.

I'm from Tyler too! Glad you joined us.
How is everyones gardens doing? This heat and lack of rain is killing my flowers. I water every other day but with the HIGH temps that's not doing much good. I think it's supposed to be 98 today! I can't remember when we had our last rain. I thought I was real luckly this year...I got a FREE 16 foot trailer of mulch however it was green and I think that is another one of problems. It's releaseing nitrogen and I think that maybe hurting my plants as well. Does anyone now what I should do?
When ever we have to use red bark (unaged bark) in our soil mix we add 3# of lime per yard to eat up the extra nitrogen being released
Welcome EASTEX! We're so glad you found us. Maggiemoo...thanks for remembering everyone! Can't remember now...someone from Broaddus, hmmmm. I'll think of her later I'm sure! I'm all for a get-together! Everyone else has been having so much fun at theirs, I'm jealous!
My poor flowers, they were looking so pretty! This heat is just beating them to death! Remember, this is the first summer in the new house & yard, so nothing is really established. We still have some spots in the back yard where grass hasn't filled in & this heat is not helping! We water the yard every day (have to...it's about 3 acres). I've really been concentrating on keeping the trees watered too. After planting 30-something trees, I'll be darned if I'm gonna lose 'em! Whew, too much work to plant more! I'm also wondering if we'll even get a second hay cutting, it's not grown much since the first.
Okay, enough griping! So sorry, but y'all are such good listeners! Let's plan a round-up or just a day trip to somewhere! Actually, since it's so hot, just lunch sounds good, LOL. EASTEX, I'd love to stop in for a visit, I get to Tyler frequently with my work. Let us know where you are!
Cynthia
mydaisy...You must come through Center all the time.
I vote for lunch in a nice cool restaurant, can't stay out much past 10:00am except to move the hose around. Perhaps everyone could bring one plant and we could draw for them or something. We could also plan something more elaborate for the fall when it's cooler.
You're right brendabloomer, I'm in Center all the time! Have you checked out the Spring Water Nursery on 96 btwn Center and San Augustine? He's really inexpensive & at times has lots of stuff! I've bought several trees and other "must haves" there. My son goes to Shelbyville HS (9th grade)...we're really not in SA, about 12 miles NE towards Shelbyville, but have the SA address. Weird, I know!
Well, can you believe it?!? We just had a VERY light rain! WOW, it didn't even settle the dust! Catlady, let's plan on your idea, sounds like fun!
Now this is weird...one of co-worker's wife is a 2nd grade teacher in Shelbyville! Mrs. Harrington. It's a small small world. And I to have bought plants form Spring Water. I've known the owners for years.
I think we got 1/2 inch rain today in Tyler. Hope you all got some too.
He's a hoot isn't he? Not ashamed of drinking his Bud all day in front of the customers! brenda, you got some rain today, right? It just dropped a little on us, I guess we were too far south. DH was in Logansport...he called and said it was flooding. *Sigh*
shirleygirly, 1/2 inch of rain would be a blessing!
We got more rain today mydaisy, surely you got some of it. It sounded so good with the light thunder. It did mess up my garage sale plans though. I did make it to one before the rain got started.
Welcome to Tyler or are you just starting a nursery here. Where is it? I hope it is on the south side of town. I have an acre and it is mostly flowers. All shade. I hope more nurseries will start growing shade plants. After all, we are in the piney woods. Why do they have you in 5a? I had forgotten what rain was like. We will have to sell the house to pay the water bill this month. Now are you sorry you asked if there were any one in Tyler? I was just going through and thinking there is not any one here but me. Try the Men's Garden Club [for women too]. It is a very good group.
For information, call the president of the club, Tony Traweek , at 903-561-0000 or e-mail him at tonytrav@tyler.net.
