i think it depends on the variety......

That is SO neat! Which variety of Passionflower produced the fruit?

I think that is P. Caerulea and mine is covered in fruit too. I tasted a few last year but there really isn't anything inside it other than seeds. None of my many passifloras produce fruit with much "meat" to speak of. So far the biggest is P. Incarnata and the pulp surrounding the fruit is the only part of the fruit with any decent flavor. Its a tart that turns oddly sweet after a few seconds. Veru odd.
My question is how long does it take for P. Caerulea fruit to fully mature? I'm only wanting them for seeds mostly and all my fruit in the past is either hollow or filled with tiny seeds that look far from ready. I now have more fruit than flowers and would like to let some fruit ripen for seed then remove all the fruit so the plant will focus on flowering again. Any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks, JD

Caerulea is bright orange skinned with red seeds when ripe. It is not known for it's flavor but is used as a pollenator for others in the edible group. If you type "passiflora edulis" in google search you will see the many edible varieties.

Picture lady are your seeds going to get hard if you lay them out to dry?

I was going to post this same question, on my incarnata fruits, wondering when they will be ripe for seeds. and Can you eat them, I have found litterally a whole field of incarnata vines growing in my back 40 and their full of fruits and undeveloped fruits andflowrs, all over the place.

Anybody know about the incarnata fruits? sorrry for taking over this thread, I figured someone could help with the incarnata like the C passie.

Picture lady can you post a close up of your leaf on yours, I just want to make possitive this is incarnata that I have, looks like my leaves look like yours.

Also, this is the first fruit I have had on the passion vine...so I don't know if the seeds dry up, but I would imagine so...

hey, did you already have his one or did you get it in Halfmoon Bay?
I am hoping for a cutting of a white one like this at the RU. I have a purple one but it never has fruits. I really should do more research on passion flowers.

Hi Sue...This passionfruit I have had for probably 25-30 yrs...it is on the patio and has grown under the bricks into the planter with the tree...and everyplace else it could !!! This is one of the first years it has flowers though! Darn...I think it likes being fed and watered!!! :-) It has also found a place for itself to the sunny side of the fence! It also likes sun !!! See even a plant placed in the wrong place will survive and even bloom given enough time! (Good thing I was young when I planted it or I would never have seen it bloom!) I couldn't get away with that error today!!! :-))))

I would be glad to bring you some!!! Should I root it in water first? I know the answer...I will start rooting some today!!! :-)))

These vines are sure hardy...

A maypop I grew on my fence two years ago at my old place was cranking out the fruit faster than me and my daughter could eat it. It's one of those tart-tangy flavors you either like or dislike. We're the only two who'll eat them. I went out and looked at my vine I have growing up the trellis (and on the house, and on the window screen...), and I have my first baby fruit of the summer! :-) My daughter was cheering LOL

I have this one behind the canna in a 20 gal. pot, no sign of the pot now and pretty soon the wisteria will be completely covered. It's in full sun and is always looking like this year round.
