I have always like the 'Black Dragon'. I know it isn't for my zone but I was able to grow it & have it return the following year. Haven't seen it since. Great photo Tom.

Hi Tom,

This is an absolutely gorgeous photo, but are you quite certain that it is Black Dragon? It has quite a bit of green in it, which is just stunning. I grew Emerald Trumpet to get the effect you obtained from this lily. But It looks rather different from the coloration in the photo from Old House Garden. Am I mistaken?

Donna - I got the bulbs for my 'Black Dragon' from OHG (as far as I know they are the only reliable vendor for this lily). Differences in growing conditions (I'm in NC and they're in MI) probably account for any color difference.

Tom,
Well, OHG is absolutely the best, so you must be right. I love the area you are in, by the way. I've been to NC three times, and am a member of Raulston Arboretum. I consider where you are pretty close to plant heaven.

Thanks for writing back.

The first year I grew Black Dragon they came up like the one pictured. Thereafter they took on the more elongated shape, more burgundy and less green. Such a wonderful fragrance! I am in central Virginia - my Black Dragons get 5'-6'tall.
