July 23rd a few of us thought about getting together and seeing a few area places looking for the perfect plants.Frostweed had some great ideas for where we could go, maye hit a cheap lunch and wrap up with a few more.
If you can come please post here - if you know anywhere we should go in Dallas closeto the South Dallas area, Grand P, Arlington Area just add here and we can pick the best few to head off to...
Hope to see all of you - Mitch
Dallas Area Nursery Date
Dh and I would like to join in if we may, and if we don't end up babysitting that day!!!
Carol
Love to have you!
(would make a great day out for the babies!)
But not for the rest of us!!!! Heck on legs my grandkids at times - ages 2 and 4!
I might be able to come! WITH my boys, though, aged just 4 and almost 7. I will watch this thread and let you know!!!
Are you still watching this thread, Tamara?
John
My boy 2 might be there - kids dont bother me, I want to open his eyes to plants young.
Kids make me smile. :-)
Count me in.
Redenta's in Arlington is a good place to go.
I have heard that North Haven Gardens in Dallas is great, but from the name of it, it must be in north Dallas. Will see if I can find out other good ones in south Dallas.
Adeline
Posie - if you want to find 2 or 3 great places, if all are in favor I would let ya pick them out.
checking in, still making plans...
I don't know the area so I'll 'go with the flow'
Carol
Thank you, Mitch! LOL. Hopefully, others can also chime in here and tell us about the nurseries they have heard about. Caro, that is how how I feel, "go with the flow." But I will try to seen what I can find. I am just delighted to be able to meet all of you.
Adeline
Same with me - I have only been to the farmers market ones downtown Dallas. There are some really good ones over there but it might be to far... anyone have a fav one in the South area???
I don't know any of the nurseries in the "south" areas other than Farmers Market, which is a great place for a group to visit.
Maybe we should all meet and check that out then -
I have been told the Redenta's in Cedar Creek is very good and is considered in South Dallas.
i will have to bow out, shouldn't drive so far with a cast on my arm. maybe i can get down there in the fall???...
Ok, from a fellow "love Dallas nurseries" (but lives in Austin), what about Weston Gardens and I really love the inexpensive glazed pottery at Calloways.
Luci, I missed you at the Austin Nursery Date. Were you the one who told me you were doing the Pond Society tour? They were telling us about the tour when we stopped at Emerald Gardens.
What's up? Are there still plans for nursery visits this Saturday?
Looks like I'm going to miss it. No its not the grandchildren either! We are invited to a puppy party - helping a friend select her pup from a litter. It has to be then - the pups are the right age and will be gone the following w/e.
Sorry guys - have fun without us and post lots of pics.
Carol
OK post here if you are going to be there for sure - lets meet at Renentas in Arlington Posie and the rest of us can take it from there. I need to check out to be oncampus by 2ish When do you want to meet up there? 10?Mitch
I sent email to all who posted - if you are coming please let me know for sure! I dont want to get there and wait for just myself LOL Mitch
So did you all go hunting to day?
Yeah, inquiring minds want to know!
:-)
Well I think it died a little in favor or a latter date.. .. .. um guess we are all a little beat by the heat!
I understand. That's the reason I didn't plan on going. I know what it's like in July!
Ok, I know this thread hasn't been active in awhile, but I think this is the best thread for this question. DH and I are taking our daughter back to school this Sat. On the way home we'll be going through Dallas and I am hoping that somebody could tell me the name of a really good water garden supply/nursery there. The last time we were in Dallas somebody told us about it, but we couldn't go because the day we were there is the day they are closed. I vaguely remember it being on the south side of Dallas, but that may be way off.
Thanks.
I will ask one of my co-workers. He built a water garden. I know he has told me the name of a place, but I cannot recall it right now.
The only one I hear much about is Creative Water Gardens in Garland, which is just Northeast of Dallas. I often hear it recommended by Pond Enthusiasts.
I did find this place http://www.wggalore.com by doing a Google search for Dallas area pond supply. I have never heard of it, but it's in Dallas and more central, though not actually south. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Ok, we'll try for Creative Water Gardens. We'll be there on Monday probably, so the other place will be closed. Thanks a bunch for the info.
No problemo. Here is a link to their website with directions:

Silverfluter,
If you are near northeast Fort Worth during your visit, you might try finding and stopping in a little place called Keller Farms. It is not a farm, and LOL, not in Keller for that matter! LOL! But it is a one of a kind place with very knowledgeable and friendly people. It is an old house that has been converted into a overflowing business. The front yard is the parking lot, and it is always full on Saturdays when we have gone there. They have the best prices on fish around here. They have wall to wall food, and supplies, then thru the maze and around the corner is tanks upon tanks of aquarium life. Outside is the Koi of all sizes, Shibunkin and others in large shallow tanks that make viewing great. They also have plants in the far back area. Here is the info if you want to look them up. It's starting to get cool.... Is anyone planning a "field trip"? I'm new to DG and pretty new to DFW. I've been to Northgate - it's a bit of a ways for me but well worth it. And Calloways in Addison; close but not very great for plants. Helpful staff, though.
Curious in Farmers Branch..

Liz, welcome to DG! Glad you spoke up here, the TX Gardening forum bunch is a friendly lot. We had a plant swap in Arlington just a couple of weekends ago, soory you didn't make it. Hopefully some Dallas area folks will speak up soon. You could also start a new thread, may be title it something like "Anyone for a DFW area Fall field trip?" That should get peoples attention.
Again, welcome!
