Bward, you are very close to my zone. Cant you grow them outside? I know Trish is right above me in 8a and she has them growing in her swamp.

rylaff, it is iffy-they struggle to come back. I find the best thing to do is stick the in ground in summer and dig them up in fall and plop them in a pot. Keep them in hoop house that stays 50's at night. At least I try.
Last fall I was sick and couldn't dig a lot of my costus. Midnight is coming back but having a hard time. Several other also are popping up. I was lucky because we had a very mild winter. No problem with hedychiums and curcuma.
