Help Identifying Bulbs - Look like small onions

Hello all - Mom gave us some bulbs today. They are all in a big clump but look like a bunch of seperate small onions stuck together. Each bulb about half the size of a tennis ball. She told me she thinks they are either surprise lillies or daylillies - Anyone hazard a guess. I am unfamiliar with what the bulbs should look like on either. Thanks

They sound an awful lot like my naked ladies/surprise lilies. You might look up Lycorus and see if that is what you have. Daylilies have tubers. They basically look like fat roots and some or all can have a more fat bulbish end on them. :)

Thanks Badseed - Will look into that. I thought I remembered daylilies having many tubers or fatty areas on the roots but wanted to ask to be sure. Thanks.

Yea...probably not a daylily. They don't make a big fat bulb like a Naked Lady (surprise lily). Just think, it will be a double surprise when they come up and you get to see what they really are!

Yeah, darn sure they are surprise lilies now. The surprise will be if I can remember where I plant them so I dont till them up next spring. lol. All your "babies" are doing well btw - Thanks

Hi SLG. I'm glad to hear that all are doing fine. I sent so many things that I was wondering if they were going to make it or not. For the most part they are all pretty tough plants though. I'm sending you another little care package this week. It is a bunch of Allium bulbs that I don't like. I just don't like Alliums in my garden. They look sloppy to me (as if the rest isn't sloppy!). I already tried to get rid of them and sent a bunch to someone else. Now darn if they aren't back!
I'm glad you garden is growing well. Soon you need to send photos!
