A big surprize on my birthday today, didn't even know there was a bud under that leaf, very sweet fragrance as well.

Rylaff, are you sure,I know I read somewhere here at Daves,if its a plant Rylaff has it!!!!LOL
You have so many wonderful plants, just be glad were not neighbors
or what would be yours would be mine!!!LOL!
I believe in share share a like, especially if you have it to share!! LOL!
Keep posting them wonderful plant pictures,so I'll know what to put on my wish list!!
Don
Don, if it is Truely Maliformis, (it does appear that it is), then it is a self fertile flower and almost 100% of the flowers should polenate all by it's self.
Mark
Hi Mark, you know,I think I remember reading that somewhere, but know I have already hand pollinated it,will it change anything?
I peeked under the outer petals, the flower has dried up,but no signs of a fruit as of yet.
Don
Hi Don! Are you sure that it is a P. malformis? It looks like it might be P. platyloba? Did I send you a rooted cutting of mine a little while ago? I can't remember which ones I sent you. I'll check and see. I just wonder because my P. platyloba is blooming now too, and the blooms kind of look like yours.

Hi Don, Perhaps you got P. malformis from someone else because yours does look it too.

Here's a link for P. malformis below. It does look a bit smaller than yours: http://www.hewo.nl/passiflora%20species/maliformis.jpg

Hi Clare,I got this from online from Elizabeths Nursery somwhere in Washington State,I believe,I think you gave me the link to order from here
There is a difference between the two flowers, very close, but mine has those back tenacles,I guess thats what you call them,oh the book calls the coronas,I looked in my new book passifloras of the world,by Ulmer and Macdougal, the picture looks like my flower.
Yes the ones you sent me are growing good ,but no flowers as of yet on any of them.
Oh, okay, Don. I thought maybe the P. platyloba was blooming for you. I didn't know that you got P. malformis. You probably got that from Grassy Knolls Exotics. I had a problem with them and won't order from them again. Your flower is beautiful.
I haven't gotten any flowers on my P. helleri yet. Your P. amethystina will probably bloom for you in the fall. Mine tends to bloom really late, like around November.
Here's another shot of my P. platyloba today:
Yes,Garssy Knoll,same here a problem with a order,and won't buy from her again.
Your coronas are wiggly, where mine are straight, the pic of playtoba
in the book the inner petals don't have the red blotches on them like ours does.
Ah, okay, I see the difference now. Interesting. I wonder then if Logee's is selling a hybrid of P. platyloba. I wonder where they got theirs from. I can't wait to hear what you think of the taste of the fruit. It is supposed to be yummy:-) Don't forget to save seeds!
Don, I bet it was self-pollinated even before you pollinated it. I bet the taste will be delicious.
Well I did a lady margeret at the same time and she's fruiting too!
Well I hope so!!!
Has your playtoba fruited yet?
Cool, Don. I always thought that Lady Margaret was a sterile hybrid. I guess I was wrong! You should have some neat-looking flowers to look forward to. You could even name the new hybrids and sell them to a commercial enterprise like Logee's if they are really spectacular.
No fruit on P. playtoba yet. Is that one self-fertile? The only other passi's I have blooming right now are P. belottii and your Lavender Lady. I get a P. sprucei bloom only sporatically.
DON. Maliformis and Platyloba are gonna look very similar, but Platyloba should have a little more red on it and the flowers are generally a bit larger. Can you take a good pic of a leaf for me? I might be able to tell from that.
Mark
Mark,I'll have to wait until tomorrow to get a pic,you can't tell by the above leaf pic?
Straight single leaf about 2 1/2 inches wide 6 inches long, comes to a point.
Claire,I don't know if it is self-fertile or not.
Ok I just looked in the book,it says it must be crossed pollinated with a suitable species from the series Tiliifolia,or another clone.
And it is a hard shell fruit.
It is also a tri lobed leaf.
Thanks, Don!
Don, the leaf on Maliformis is not as wide as the single lobbed type of platyloba.
Mark
Clare, you Platyloba most likely won't fruit without a 2nd plant, don't think it has to be a seperate clone, but not possitive. I got 2 from the same person a few years back and I was able to get many fruits by crossing the 2. Although not certain, I believe they were of the same clone.
Mark
Thanks, Mark. I didn't think so.
