silver spotted skipper

Covington, LA(Zone 8b)

I found this cat enclosed in the leaves of a black locust tree today. We have lots of silver spotted skippers around here feeding on budleigha, etc.

The head reminds me of an ant. It has a very thin neck! I couldn't get a picture of that, however.

Here is a shot of the adult. I had to use a university wed page picture. I can't believe I have not taken one myself!

Cool! Seems like a large caterpillar for such a small butterfly, eh?

Wow, that's what I thought! I had to do some Googling myself to see. It seems to be large for a Skipper, but that cat looks like the size of hornworms!

It is fat but short--sort of like me, in fact. Most of the skippers around here are very small. The only 2 semi large ones are long tailed and silver spotted skippers.

lol...should you change your name to "Skipper"? I've never seen either of those skippers. :(
