Maya Field Report - 3 months - Hawaii

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

I finally got tired of looking at the runt...the green cutting I received....so I put her out with her sister, 3 days ago. "Fly, be free", I said... Guess I gotta learn how to start green cuttings.

The Maya on the left is 3' tall.

Size of leaf on the BIG one. So far no spiders, no mites, no nutin'...just a great healthy plant!!!

Wow, Carol, they are lovely, so healthy. Maya is healthy here too, but I'm terrified of mites, oh I hope she is spared...

Wow - you sure you don't have a Y started? The big gun looks like the one I planted inground. It sure seems like all the bugs drive around these plants, doesn't it?

If you used Maya for a cross, should it be the receptor or donor to try and capture that insect and disease resistance?

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Ext. Service found a second mite on a leaf...along with the Carmine Spider Mite! I amthinking nuclear now!!

I keep looking for a Y...

back looking some more Carol. I'm taking a pic out to the one planted in ground and ask her why she's goofing off! I guess the one in ground is only about 2' to the tip.

Are those all old roots on the ground or some kind of vine you've had to wage war on?

Were the mites on your Maya or somewhere else?

OMG Carol and you ask others what they feed there brugs. What in the world do you feed yours. Did you find some of the blue stuff 8ftbed uses? I just made a picture and I am taking it out and standing it up next to my Maya so she knows what she is suppose to be doing. I knew I should have planted my P & C next to Maya at least my P & C is growing. Will Maya is to but S L O W. I can't find any blue stuff around here.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

2pd, what is blue stuff?

Carol, I can't believe the size of your leaves. They look so big and healthy! Very nice!!!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Why, thanks guys. Blue stuff? I put a lot of granular on my brugs, and they are planted in about 60% black cinder and 40% organic matter....so the voluminous rains wash right through. The chocolate side of that is when we don't get rain!!!

I am hoping the big one beats up the little one to start growing!!!

Carol

The blue stuff is what 8ftbed has in his aquarium that he uses to water his Brugs. He actually refers to it as the blue water. You can read up on it in the forum below on April 27, at 9:AM.
