Broke my Freesia

I grew these babies from seed! I was unpotting them and moving them to a bed and whilst I was doing it, I broke the growth off at the bulb. Will the bulb die or will it put out new growth?

Nothing is impossible in nature, to take the scientists view but it's unlikely that it will sprout new growth this year. It might have been able to store enough food to keep going until next year though, it's not always a case of no leaves, lost bulb, but like I say, it's unlikely.

What if I fed it? Or does it need the photosynthesis?

Horticulture isn't an exact science, practically no science is exact it just appears to be ;). It depends on how the corm wants to behave, it will probably continue to gather food via roots for a while but they do need a certain amount of photosynthesis it just depends on whether it's already done enough. Either way, I wound give it a chance if you have the space to keep it, it might reappear next year.

I just went ahead and planted it with the other two bulbs. It'll get potted up, most likely, with them in the fall. I'd feel guilty about not giving it a chance. I wish more of my plants would thank me for my loyalty!
