We are having a half acre fish pond dug soon. We've passed the DEQ's inspection and have our permit authorized. The pond is being build in a wetland area. I promised the DEQ that I would plant natural grasses and wild flowers along the berm they are building on two sides of the pond. I'm in zone 5 and need advice on what types of fish to stock it with and suggestions for planting around the pond. The pond will be 60 feet by 300 feet approximately and about 15 feet deep on one end and 4 feet deep on the other end.
This is my first pond. Will I have problems with a lot of vegetation growing in the pond? Is this a good thing for the fish or is there anything I can do to discourage that? We would like to have a small dock and a paddle boat out there also.
Since the pond is pretty far from our house we would like to put in a windmill areator. Has anyone here used one and where did you get them? Do they work well?
Thanks for any and all suggestions, tips, resources etc.

Advice needed for fish pond
No answers eh? Did I post this in the wrong forum or what?
I don't think it was the wrong forum... its just most folks are not familiar with a pond on that large of a scale. Maybe someone will come up with some help sooner or later. My only advice would be to check with some local university that has a decent agriculture department and see what help they can provide. Good luck.... Tom
You could post in the Farm forum, you're likely to get answers there. Good luck, sounds like fun.
