oooh....I have 2 of those I'm growing from seed. Do you feed them any particular fertilzer? So far they didn't care for Miracle grow. I'm using osmocote for now. My friend has one of the trees at her farm so I took a seed pod. I didn't think they would grow so well, and so quickly.

Not a clue. It is also called a firemans hat tree.

That is beautiful!

Mine are blooming, too. I love them.

'Seems like I read somewhere that they drop some sort of liquid and thus the name "crybaby tree" evolved. In my humble opinion, it might be cause somebody ran under one of them with the lawnmower or something, got an armful of thorns and got their hanky all wet crying! (The flowers are well worth putting up with those thorns!)

I've had several of these through the years, and only one out of all of them made seedpods. I wonder why.

Thanks Rylaff,
I haven't been fertilizing mine either, the one time I did, they didn't seem very happy. Mine are also in pots. So far they don't seem to tolerate full sun, which is probably similar to Florida, only we're in a freak heat wave here. I have them in partial sun dappled through tree limbs. My talles is about 3 feet tall. Are yours in full sun? What is the normal intake for watering? It's been 99F and 100F everyday here.
Thanks for your help!

Mine gets late afternoon shade. It gets watered daily. Doing well, except no seeds again this year. I think they call it the crybaby tree because water collect in the circular part of the flower. Once it gets heavy and tips, the water comes rolling out , kind of like a tear drop.

cool!
