Common Mullein, Aaron's Rod, Adam's Flannel, Fairy Tale Plan

Well, when this started growing, I thought it was a foxglove. When it reached 3 feet I figured out what it was.

Now I'll let it go to see how big she gets. I'm 5'4 and it is just about as tall as I am right now.

If you don't want it everywhere next year don't let it go to seed. My herb garden is currently under a blanket of "Adam's Flannel" because I let the 2 I had planted for medicinal use go to seed. This year I will collect the seed and control the dispersal.

Good advice, well heeded. And if it seeds anything like Stachy's byzantina............ I might be in trouble? :-D

I was stupid. When the seed head dried it sounded like a rattle and the kid in me just could not resist shaking it,

lol, not stupid, just next time shake it over a paper bag! Why do we garden if not for the kid in us?

I've read that it can be difficult to eradicate and the seeds are viable for 100 years.

I will be watching the flower for it's seed for sure. It may seem strange but I like this plant and would like to grow another one next year! LOL.

Mobi - I spotted another smaller one in a completely different part of our yard. I am assuming the wind blew it in or a bird dropped it. 100 years? Wow

I think I have a different type as the mullein in my yard is about 2 feet. I went ahead and pulled it this morning (I didn't grow it). Mullein is an herb and is used for gastrointestinal problems.

Take another picture when it flowers! I'd like to see what it looks like in bloom.
