Y'all get ready...my long journey to blooms will result in pictures soon :)
ok folks..I have buds but no pics yet
I'm awaiting!!
Judy
Good news. Can't wait to see the pictures. I know how exciting it is waiting for those first blooms.
This is the best time for me, waiting for them to open. Anticipation!!
I'm am amazed that I can have 2 brugs sitting side by side in pots with identical treatment...one gets eat up with bugs and the other is fine.
Oh tell me which ones they are... I'm for shippimg the buggy brugs to someone up north who has cold enough winters to kill out most of the insects.
Judy
Don't sent them to me. I have enough bugs this year. Right now I'm trying to find the critter that is eating holes in my brug leaves so bad that someone of the leaves are half gone. Can't find slug trails, no worm poop.....have no idea what it is, but tonight they are all getting BT. I'm putting out slug bait too.
Shirely, I have a few of those too. I can't find anything on them.
Ada, I've even wondered if it was the black birds, but whatever is doing it, is really good.
Ada, Brugie, I had that last year and this year too, I NEVER could find what was eating them. I've used Bayer 3 in 1 this year, followed up by Bayer Tree and Shrub, neither are sprays, but are poured on, and then I followed up with Neem for mites, and used a snail/slug preventative and I STILL have holes. What in the world gets past all that?? And, what ever it is, is invisible. I also have burned my brugs from something and I suspect the bugs stuff and next week, it's time for me to use the Bayer 3 in 1 again. Shoot, I dunno.
LOL I don't know what it is but it sure have my leaves looking like swiss cheese and the snail/slugs are doing a number on them too.
I seem to be faced with the same problem. I just knew it had to be cats and I've searched high and low, morning - noon & night and can't find them. I don't see slugs or snails and can't find anything anywhere. The only thing I do seem to see is cucumber beetles. But they are on my datura. I don't know anything about cucumber beetles....I've only seen one in my life until about 2 weeks ago. How do you get rid of them????? Do they eat brug leaves and make it look like a big cat has been munching on them?
Edited to say sorry Charlotte! I think I've (we've) just hijacked your thread. I hope you have gorgeous blooms soon. I know how exciting it is knowing they are on the way!

I've been having the same problem with my Maya.
I'm now on my third round of raising her from almost nothing, and was ready to throw her to compost, but didn't have the heart.
Someone at the Jax RU told me about Ferti-lome Dipel dust.....and, I thought why not! I don't want to lose her, but she is definitely my problem child.
Even though you may see a lot of holes in her now, since I've dusted her, I haven't seen any additional damage
I even put her right up against my kitchen window so I can keep a sharp eye on her, and just this afternoon moved her further out again.
We shall see!
grakay - Please post on this thread again in a week or so and give us an update.
Brugie, what I meant was those brugs that attract insects need to be sent "way" up north were they don't have insects because their winters are so cold, may have to be the North Pole. I remember someone posting to one of the threads that it was poor housekeeping, or greenhouse keeping if you had insects. I don't suppose they've ever been this far South or lived in the country.. swat, swat, swat lol lol

grakay, your Maya is beautiful even with the holes!!! I cannot believe there is a dust i haven't tried, and has a cat right on the front of it! So you really think the dust is working?? I'm going to put Maya right in front of my kitchen window too...
I've had plenty of time to just look at the garden, since I'm still recovering from rotator cuff surgery, and I applied this about 10 days ago......still a lil hard to write, so haven't been keeping a journal, but I know that I haven't seen any more holes or big bites. I did take a couple of big cats off over two weeks ago, but since then, have not seen a trace of any more.
I just might take a pic of her every day and study it on my monitor and by that time it will almost be 3 weeks, and then I will have a more definitvie answer.
Isn't this baffling?
