Hoya cv. Optimistic

Knoxville, TN

Just when I had given up on seeing my Eriostemmas bloom, along comes Ed Gildings' cultivar Optimistic. I thought I would share my joy!

Wouldn't it be nice if they had a scent? Actually, H. cv. Ruthie is from the same grex and a grower friend of mine swears it has a scent! Does your cv. Optimistic have a scent?...Those are really nice umbels.

Good going Mel. I have seriously been thinking about getting rid of all mine, but now you have given me hope haha.

Thanks all for your supportive comments!

Carol, Thanks. I stuck my nose in the umbel this morning and for a minute detected a slight sent, but, not enough to be noteworthy.

Patrica, I am definately going to have to cut back on my collection of Eriostemmas. Other than cv. Ruthie, the leaves look alike and they are boring when not in bloom. I simply do not have to space to keep too many look-a-likes.

Awanda, I am sure all you will have flowas on all yours after you have a long talk with them.

Just beautiful Mel!! I waited a very long time for Ruthie to bloom and when they were ready to open we had our first blast of cold air and they dropped..What size are the blooms?

Dianne,
I bet you will see blooms this year on Ruthie. Perhaps she is just saving up to put on an amazing show for you when she blooms the second time.
The H. cv. Optimistic bloom on my plant is 2" wide when it first opens. It will be interesting to see how long the bloom lasts. This is the second bloom flush and it has 4 umbels at various stages of development. The flowers all blasted on the first bloom cycle.
