I am just wondering what variety of australis this is?.....a few leaves look a bit gimped as i had to take a cutting when it got top heavy and fell on the floor....it roots very quick and seems to grow quite quickly also.....

australis I.D.
Hi Sandy...it looks like H. australis ssp. tenuipes to me. However ;>( as another woman says, photos do lie. Anyway, that's my opinion and I am sticking with it ;>). Carol
I agree with the other two ladies.
Thanks so much you guys!....I have read that it blooms early? (siting Carol's website).....

Sandy

LOL Christine...i was thinking that i shouldn't even be typing it...I just jinxed myself now , they are gonna come out in droves to visit my hoyas......then i might have to place an order to Pikes..lol
Sandy
Yeah until hubby cant find the bed because they all need preference of the west window....lol...
H. australis ssp. tenuipes was the first hoya I ever bought...and it was labeled H. coronaria!!! Mel ID'd it for me...years ago! Has to be going on 4 years!!! Now they are 40' up a tree...and produce tons of seeds! One day I expect to find a jungle of hoyas out there!.
I also saw one growing out of its mind and blooming it's head off in a cool wet area, outdoors at 3500' altitude...they get temps down in the 40s F at night in the winter.... It is a wonderful hoya to grow!!!
Sany and Jaimie....you have great looking plants!
Carol
Thanks Carol, I was hoping the little cutting would get going and it has, finally...it seems to like some west sun in my window ....maybe it will surprise me and get a bloom down the road....I cant even imagine seeing a hoya that grow up a tree let alone that large......do you keep the seeds and start them?...they must self-seed like crazy in your climate....that would be cool to see.....
Sandy
There is some vacant land down on the coast which is upwind from houses (where there must be H. australis growing) and the trees are full of them! And they have the largest, fattest leaves I have ever seen!!! A real joy! We have all rough terrain upwind but I hope, if they are found, Hoyas won't be called an invasive species!!! Most wind borne seed bearing plants ARE put on that list!!!
