Baby & Snowy

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Baby is 13 1/2 and Snowy is 10. They have been sisters now for 3 1/2 years. I've had Baby since she was a wee pup and she's been settled in for a long time. Learned a lot of commands both verbal and hand signs. Good thing for the hand signs because at the KYRU last September it was brought to my attention Baby was not being stubborn, she just couldn't hear very well. So now she gets a poke on the bottom to get her attention to read my hands, lips or face.

Snowy is a former racing Greyhound. Prior to joining our family, she was in another home for about a year after she retired racing. She didn't know much about commands, like sit, stay, come. Because she's so timid she had to be taught gently so not to frighten her. Patience and a soft voice (yes, I really can talk in a soft voice, heehee).

Baby is a pretty smart girl. She knows when she stinkies and is more than happy to get a bath. Oh she loves a warm tub bath, if she wasn't so old, she would help herself into the bathtub. Snowy doesn't believe she ever needs a bath, "Why Mom, I do not smell funny".

Baby has always wanted a live in friend and we had a cat for a while, but Mo wouldn't have anything to do with Baby and the parrots would only just bite her. Baby was so sad until we got Snowy.

Now I didn't really believe that Snowy was all that bright, but she has proven me wrong in many subtle ways. When she wants my attention and I'm sitting here at this desk, she knows right where to poke her cold wet nose to get me off this chair. Works in a flash. When she wants her dinner and I'm not hurrying fast enough, she does the old headbutt, right on my behind, pushing me to the feed dishes.

Now to make a long story just a bit longer, tonight we ordered delivery food. The man came and while I was reading the bill and paying him, I didn't see Baby slip out the door. (I have a screened in front porch so that was a blessing). Well I am happily chowing down my cheesesteak sub and Snowy is standing in the living room crying. Oh I am thinking what a pest, she wants in, she wants out. What does she want? So I go to her and she leads me to the front door. I open it, and there is Baby waiting to be let in.

They are definately sisters and they love each other.

:^))))
