WTG Kyle .... what a little beauty!!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Please tell me what you pollinated with? I have Vulcaniciola, hoping to use on it. Arborea(2 plants) are blooming their heads off here. Have a seedpod(self pollinated). I think the plants like Ohio weather.

Hi Kyle,

You know she'll find out about it! LOL You can't keep the good ones secret.

I never did find that giant EP you told me about in North Park, San Diego a couple years ago. Did manage to get myself lost. I've told my Equador Pink that it should aspire to that example. Should only take 10 years or so. :-)

The plant is in a 6 inch or maybe a 7 inch pot. Plastic pot and its outside in the heat and humidity. The others from the same seed pod show now signs of blooming..or growing. Hibiscus if you have pollen of vulcanicola send me some and I'll cross it with a flower or two and see if we get a pod.The seeds will be yours. Like I need any more plants!!LOL

I love the arborea pods, they are so fuzzy! Congrats Kyle, maybe you've got a heat tolerant one there!

Going to be in the 90's all week so will see what happens..if the flowers last and the pod stays on..maybe we got a heat tolerant seedling!! Time will tell.

Yours are doing good! nice branching pattern.

Thank you, never thought they could take the heat here in Ohio, but they seem to love it. 'Been blooming like crazy, see my pod?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I tried and tried to cross pollinate my arborea with sang and vulcanicola pollen. The problem was, I could never be sure if they had self pollinated before I pollinated. I even would slit up the side of the bud, remove the anthers so they couldn't self pollinate then wait till it was mature enough to pollinate. I got pods, but the only problem was, I got pods on the control blooms too that I had taken the anthers out of but did not pollinate. So I could never be sure if I was the pollinator or if it self pollinated!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I have same thoughts, Kell. Wondered if it is self pollinating, can I get there FIRST?? How can you be sure?

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

The stigma turns brown right after pollination occurs. If the stigma is brownish on the tip..its too late to use that flower.
