CLOSED: Anyone interested in a hosta Waving Wuffles, Patriot, or ...

Blandinsville, IL(Zone 5a)

Gucacamole... I will take 1 divison from each of these plants. The Gucacamole, and the Patriot will be off mature Plants, the Waving Wuffles will be smaller. Again, looking for Daylily, Iris, hosta I don't have. These are true to name, they are not TC's and they are not from a Box stores.

Please post here, it is much easier for me to keep track of everyone because I sometimes give you my other e-mail account to contact me. I will be more than happy to send anyone a list of daylily, hosta and bearded Iris I already have so you don't have to keep asking me if I have this plant or that. I know that can be real annoying at times.

Thanks for looking

I have a question for you Annie. I have some hosta that I bought from Winterberry so I know those are tc. And I bought some that were sold to me as "os" so I know those are not tc. But how can I know whether a plant from my favorite local nursery is (or was at one time) tc or not?

Blandinsville, IL(Zone 5a)

I may collect alot of hosta, but by no means am I an expert. All I know is that they are my choice of plants, and for the most part they are the most sturdy, dependable plants, you will ever invest in. I have a few that give me fits but if they die, but I wouldn't waste my time on them again. I'm confused on your "OS" either they are a division of the same plant or they are not?? It is like me dividing my Patriot out there a hundred times. It is still going to be a "Patriot". Some tcs are unstable and will revert as will some older hosta. Most dealers are good about throwing those out, others sell them to the "box stores".

I imagine at one time or another alot of them were tc. The best thing would be to ask when you buy them or when you trade for them. I don't know that much about them, I don't like them, and do not like getting them in a trade. I don't have time to play and baby them, and it is a real shocker to get one as a trade when you've sent a decent size division.

Some of the hosta I trade for get shipped to Iowa to my sisters, and they get even less attention there. They will either make it or they won't. I want them to at least have fair shot.

I have never bought hosta over the interet. If any of mine started out as as a tissue cultures they had to have been at least five- six years old when I bought them because they were wayyy too big to be a tc at the time, and expensive enough.

I know, I didn't answer your question. That is just my feelings on them. I'm sure many people do fine with them, they are just not for me. To me they are a real cheap way to get your collection started and that is fine, just be sure to inform whoever you are trading with that that is what you are sending.

Good luck with your hosta,
Annie>>>>>>>one who hates TC's no matter how cheap they are!

Annie! I would love Guacamole! I know I have 2 but darn it, I love that hosta! If you could save it for me when I come, that would be great!

I just scored you the following daylilies:

Ah Youth
Andrew Christian
Far Niente (this one is really pretty!)
Impressions
Lois Dews (should be interesting, it's amber w/ a darker amber eye)
Purple Rain Dance
Sparkling Orange

They are yours no matter what, and I will bring them down with me when I come.

Annie,

I would be VERY interested in a Guacamole division! Would you be interested in Krossa Regal by any chance?

LilacLily, the Guacamole is yours, all you had to do is tell me you were looking for another.

Awww that is very nice of you for the daylily, and thanks a million.

Annie,

I would love to have your list for future reference. Dmail would be great!

I do have others, it's just that the 'Krossa Regal' divisions had not yet been replanted! :)

I don't buy from the big box stores either, but I know of very few nurseries around me that can tell me if their hosta originated from tc or not. Unfortunately, the more I learn, the less I'm interested in buying from local nurseries too. By OS I mean "originator's stock" which I believe means my division came from the original plant of the person who registered it. I've read about Embroidery not always being true-to-color if it's from tc, so I was taking you literally and wondering if there was a sure way to know whether a hosta is from tc or os.

I think you did answer my question and then some LOL So, by tc you mean size/age? For example, my 5 year-old nice size LS Surfrider from Winterberry would be ok but not my tiny eye of originator's stock of Carriage Wheels?

Cheryl,
TC are fine, they are just not for me. For Example, my Embrdiery I have is true to name. It was too expensive of a hosta not to be.

It was big enough this year that I gave a divsion to the leukemia/lymphona sale, I traded one, and kept one for my self.

If, and again, if I was going to buy tc. I would grow them for a least three years before trading them off. No tc is going to give you three divsions in three years.........I don't think!!!.

Im not an expert on thosta all I know is that I like them ..ALOT!!!
