I have never had Brugs and don't have any immediate neighbors that have them, so I am interested in knowing exactly how to take care of them. I am planning to pot them in a couple of large planters that I have. Typically, our winters are mild here, but I don't have the option of bringing them in the house and have no greenhouse. What is the best way to take care of them if there is forecasted to be a freeze? How much sun can they take (keeping in mind that our sun is pretty intense)? I water daily for potted plants and seedlings, so water is not an issue.
Thanks.

you'll probably get replies but scroll back through even recent entries and you'll find complete threads covering your questions. Just a bit quicker to get a whole train of input at once.
welcome to brugs and good luck!
Welcome to the brug forum shuggins :-)

Do you have a garage? You could drag them into a garage for the duration of the freeze. It won't hurt them to be without bright light for a while. Even putting them on the south side of the house and covering with a sheet would protect them a lot. Unless the freeze is a lasting freeze, most brugs will just lose their leaves and grow new ones. It all depends on how cold it gets and for how long.
I'm sorry, I got so busy trying to answer your question that I forgot to say "Hi,and welcome to the brug forum".

Shuggins, Welcome to the forum. It is always nice to see a new brug. lover come on board.
Welcome! I think you can overwinter outside in Zone 9. I believe mulching helps. But there are plenty of Texans here that have brugs so one of those might pipe up :)
shuggins, welcome to the brug forum! I'd put all of mine in the ground if I lived in Houston and mulch them heavily for the winter and make cuttings of the special ones as a backup. I told someone that the other day and he said 'they are all special', lol, so, I said, make cutting of all of them. Good luck!!
First let me say, thanks for the welcome.
Yes, I have a garage. Freezes in our area, at least hard freezes, are usually is referred to in hours, not days. We may have 5 hours below freezing or something like that, so it is not like any extended period of time.
How much sun can they take?
Thanks.
WELCOME!! My brugs can take full sun but it stays in the 70s here. The hotter it is the less full sun they like I believe.
I live in 9B, and my brugs stay outside. I may get some die back and leaves gone, but they usually make it thru winter great unless we have an usually long freeze. I do runout and throw towles or sheets over mine. And if in pots, I lay them on their side and cover them. They usually come thru then with no damage. I have more trouble with rot for the winter season is our rainy season.
I also put up a hoophouse for my special brugs. For I never know if the winter will be a severe one. The last 2 havbe been so mild, my petunias even lived over.
I think you will not have any trouble! Glad you have joined us.
