Annual Thunbergia question

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3a)

Hi, Does anyone know if African Queen and the new smoothie series come true from seed? Will they cross if planted together? Sorry for posting it here but I know the seed collectors are on here. Joelle

Have you a web site where I can see a picture of these? I've been living in a cave so it seems and haven't heard about these cultivars. Thanks!

They won't come true from seeds....they are hybrids. Could cross if they have the right pollinators.

"Thunbergia. Ok, moving from cool-season flowering vines to those that can take the heat. Ecke Ranch had something I had never seen before its release for next year — a lavender-pink thunbergia. Most of the Thunbergia alata hybrids are either orange or yellow tones, but this plant (‘Raspberry Smoothie’) was a clear lavender-pink tone, really distinct! I’m looking forward to seeing it perform in the South next year. The lavender form was only one of the new releases, and the second was ‘Apricot Smoothie’ a distinctive orange with burgundy shading towards the throat, both of these new types are definitely a step away from the old fashioned black eyed Susan vine."

Joseph, here is a photo showing all three blooms mentioned.

Thank you Pam, something else to kill this winter!
Maybe all these butterfly's can earn their keep and get pollinating!

Nice photo, thanks much!

Does anyone know if T. alata 'Raspberry Smoothie' is self pollinating?

If I were to hope for seeds, would I need to plant another thunbergia for pollination?

If so, would anyone want to swap for another thunbergia - hopefully any color other than dark yellow or orange? Let me know what you are looking for.

Thankx

PS - what does African Queen look like?

I have 3 raspberry smoothies growing, not seeing any seed setting though

Hmmm. Seed is definitely something to hope for.
