I just bought a Basjoo Banana plant. I'm getting conflicting information on it. The plant tag says 'cold hardy banana'.......root hardy to 12*. The plant files say zone 6a, but it seems some in zone 5 grow it outdoors. Other sites are saying hardy to -20* if mulched properly.....and I've read cold hardy to zone 3. I'm not sure what to belive. Is there anyone in zone 5 that grows this plant OUTDOORS in the ground? I'm leary about planting it in the ground until I hear of someone else in my zone that does the same. I really don't want to container grow this plant, but I don't want it to die over the winter either. Suggestions, thoughts, advice? Thanks. Jenny (Indiana, 5a)

See post from normal1234, Hardy Banana..... lots of good info for getting your nana through the winter..... I don't know how to post links but if you search the forums you should be able to find it .......
I asked the same question....
I got no answers
I found the link you were talking about. Good link. I'm guessing no matter where I would put it here, the ground would freeze. I'm thinking I'm either going to have to container grow this.....or I did read something else. It said that if you live zone 6 or lower, to cut the banana back to managable size, lift and trim the root mass, and store in a dark cool location till spring.....just as you would other tender bulbs. That may work. I've only got a 10 foot ceiling in my sunroom.....I'm not sure how tall it would get being container grown....or how big of a container I would need. LOL Jenny
