the name of a brug that does really well in full sun. i mean hot 90 degree sunlight.

i know ones pout there as a lady in the next town has one but doesnt know the name as it was given to her years ago. its in complete sun in the ground and she has flushes to make me cry.

its a yellowish orange colored one. does really well with mulch around it and seems to thrive in the heat. never seems to wilter at all.

anyone have any clues???

i need one for full sun

BEG a cuttings from her. Tell her you will help her with a garden project, make a trade, ask her what she wants, send your kid to wash her car, do whatever necessary ... and be sure to get one for me too.... lol lol

Just kidding but if she wants to trade for something you don't have maybe I'll have it. I would be glad to sent it if I do.

I live in South Florida, the temp here yesterday was 95 and it isn't even hot here yet!!
I have found that you have to keep the roots moist, I have soaker hoses that I turn on during the day when it is the hottest and I also let the hose run on them for a half hour to an hour on the bigger ones. I usually try to do this every 3 days if it hasn't rained. I have real good flushes and they continue to grow good.

When it rains real heavy one day and it is extremely hot the next, the blooms seem to steam out there in the heat, I don't think there is really anything to help this except maybe let the sprinkler run on them all day. You maybe could save the blooms, but would take a chance on keeping them too wet and causing root rot.

I would also check to see if the soil is wet before I watered them as I have mentioned above, we have sandy soil here and the water flows right through, but I know those of you north of me might have a clay soil which holds onto the water longer. So you might not need to give them as much as I do.

Another thing that helps is spraying the plants leaves with water in the morning and again in the afternoon after the sun has cooled down, it helps them deal with the heat. They can take alot of water in through their leaves.

Here is a picture of one of my brugs, it is a unknown Suaveolens hybrid.

WOZERS, Connie!!!! What a beauty, I love your photo and your brug.

imzadi, I've not been around lots, but it seems that second year plants do better and bloom more. Not that I have any blooms, but I do have way more buds than I had this time last year.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I too would ask your neighbor for a cutting, and offer something like Judy says.
WOW Connie! Thats just beautiful!

Marie I tried growing some that got afternoon and late aevening sun and they flat out died no matter how much I watered them. It was in a dry area too, maybe if the area is not to dry they might would live

I'm finding i have better luck in almost complete shade. Morning sun is hot as blue blazes here...of course afternoon sun is hot as holy heck...

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Connie,

That is one impressive Brug!!! You have the right combination and touch.

I don't have alot of shade here either...yet lol...but most of mine are in complete sun. They wilt somewhat but perk right up when the sun goes down.

I have to say the one's I set out in the front yard that are in the shade, even with the heat we're having with humidity so high too, they wilt alittle. But they're pirking up like the rest of them :-)

Connie that is a beautiful brug, probably where you live you never have to cut it back. What luck. But if you ever have to cut it back think of me, I would love a cutting.

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

my husband was over her way yesterday and asked her if i could get a piece and she said no. he even offered her the twenty dollar bill in his pocket and she said no. the guys who work with my husband said he tried everything short of just snatching a piece of plant to get me a cutting.

i wonder why not. when i go over that way next time i will ask myself and see what happens. if not i will try to get a pic and see if we cant id it.

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

Maybe that is why it is such a beautiful brug, is because she doesn't ever cut on it.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Linda - That was cute!!!
Marie - a picture I'm sure would help to ID the brug.

Did he remember to tell her how beautiful the plant is and how it would mean the world to his wife? LOL Maybe he didn't do enough sucking up, or scared her to death or maybe she is just downright selfish! ;)

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

shoot my hubby would offer the world if he knew i wanted a plant its usually the only thing i ask for.

i want a clitoria vine but me and those seeds dont get along so now hes on the hunt for an actual plant.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Hi all,
I have been out of touch the past few days, working on my house painting.
Thank you for the compliments. My brugs were all real pretty this year. I gave them a little extra attention this year.
The brug in the photo is 3 years old but I cut it back to about 3 ft after the hurricanes last year. So it really sprouted out this past spring. I have two of them side by side and they both grew like that this year. I am in the process of cutting it back now. I don't like the so much foliage next to the ground. Too many bugs get on the lower leaves.
I had some of the clitoria seeds but didn't know what they were they came from my aunt's house in Crossville, TN. I had them id'ed here at Dave's.
I had no problem at all with the seeds coming up. In fact seeds I had brought this year didn't come up but those seeds had been in a box for 3 years and they came right up.
Gotta go now, it rained real hard today(about 4 or 5 inches) and some of my brugs turned over I have to go wade out into the yard and stand them up. I have been doing most of my brug up keep at night, I can't handle the heat during the day!!
Happy Growing,
Connie

Marie, why don't you go over there? Give her those pouty eyes and a look of wonder and amazement of their beauty and try and con her out of a peice lol...can't hurt eh?

Your husband is like mine....he loves flowers too but the only thing is, he don't like digging the holes for me. Hence, the neighbor with the hole digger on the back of his tractor...Thank God for that!
