GOLDFISH TURNING WHITE

COLUMBIA, TN(Zone 6b)

OUT OF AROUND FORTY GOLDFISH, TWO HAVE TURNED WHITE. THIS HAPPENS ALMOST OVERNIGHT. THEY APPEAR TO BE HEALTHY AND ONE HAS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR A YEAR. THEY ALSO LIVE IN AN OLD CONCRETE FISH POND. WHAT WOULD CAUSE THIS?-----------BETH

Orange comets can turn white just as a matter of course. If the water quality is good, you see no raised areas or lesions, and the fish are otherwise healthy, they're probably fine. It's normal for goldfish to change color throughout their lifespan. I'd love a white one! :D

If your fish are al fine then Gw is on target but if the smaller ones die and the others start looking sluggish then, you might want to check the PH levels, too...
I innocently put a decorative ceramic piece in our pond and almost killed all my fish because the paint on it sent the PH level through the roof! Thank goodness I caught it in time,we pulled everything out...applied some PH down ,PRAYED alot and over the next few days kept decreasing the PH to a normal level. I did loose 3 fish but the other 10 lived.

Hope that helps.

I think I have read that all common goldfish turn either white or gold later in life...

I have a large one that has started getting white patches on it but it seems to be doing fine. I also have a black one (about 4" now) that never turned red. We have to remember that when we start out with a very small population, say less than six fish; inbreeding starts to occur, which leads to all sorts of strange things.
