I don't have Butterfly but I do have this Butterfly cross. The seeds were started in 2003 and it bloomed last year. This picture is the 3rd flush already from this year, although I think it would be prettier if the blooms were spread evenly amongst the canopy (kind of lopsided!). Is this what Butterfly looks like? Does Butterfly have a real strong lily smell? Do Butterfly's blooms stand up to the sun or do they melt?
I'm trying to decide if I want to add Butterfly to my collection, but if it is quite similar to this seedling I will just enjoy what I have - no need for alot of look-alikes. I'm already thinking about getting this 15 gal pot down to the basement this fall! LOL.
I'd appreciate any information from those of you with Butterfly, thanks
Eileen
Does it look like Butterfly?
Eileen, she sure is pretty. If mine looks anything like her, she's a keeper! How dainty and I'm lovin' the tendrils. Do they at some point dip or flip up? I really like it. I wish I could help you. Mine is fixing to bloom I'll let ya know!
I think my Butterfly opens more that your plant's blooms do. Yours looks like it could have been crossed with Pink Beauty or Rosamond. Butterfly will always have a place in my yard. The blooms of Butterfly will stand the heat well and even full sun if you have to place her there. She is a heavy bloomer for me. To me, her fragrance is like baby powder. Butterfly blooms are not huge blooms. Maybe medium in size. She is a very nice plant. I like your plant too. Nice number of blooms. Nice color.
She sure is pretty Eileen.
Eileen, who is the other parent?? IMO, it is very pretty, I love the color and the shape, I would be very happy to have a cross that looks like yours and it sounds like she smells like heaven. Continued good luck!!
Thanks everyone for your comments and kind words.
The blooms do open up more in the evening and at night and the ends flip up a little then. This is the Eventide/Butterfly seedling I posted pictures of last year. She's kind of a salmon pink and the color goes all the way up, except if you get right up to the flower you can see green "veins" or whatever they are called.
Shirley, I appreciate your comments about Butterfly. This one's flowers don't hold up well to afternoon sun. I currently have it in morning sun only and it does OK, they last about 4 days. But it blooms alot, easily, without constant fertilizing - even in the house this winter in a dim room after I cut it back and the leaves fell off (no one told her she was supposed to be dormant!).
So I guess until something better comes along I'll keep her but I do want to get the actual Butterfly and compare.
Eileen
I think she is beautiful. I love all those blooms. Hard not to love lots of pink. LOL
Butterfly rarely opens wide for me Eileen. I do not know why. Maybe she likes more heat.
Eileen - she is beautiful. Can you sit her pot directly on concrete or asphalt or brick to increase the heat?
Arlene
Eileen, when you come over later this summer, I'll give you cuttings of Butterfly and others that you might want. Butterfly does well in the Midwest.
Shelly, thanks for posting that picture. The one I have doesn't open quite like that even in the dark of night. Arlene, I have the pot on cement patio blocks. I think the air temp. as the summer progresses will darken the blooms but didn't make them open more last year. However there have been some changes to the overall look from last year, so that may change too.
Shirley, looking forward to visiting this summer. Butterfly looks like a "must have".
I have another seedling from the same cross, still waiting for it to bloom. Tiny buds, much fertilizer - maybe next month I'll see it flower. Haven't gotten a white one yet - 6/7 are pink!
Eileen
This was my butterfly's first bloom in the basement. She got an attitude when I took her outside and is now busy re-leafing and I'm waiting for the first blooms. Love that babypowder smell!

She is a sassy lil' thang! Beautiful flower Blaine :-)
Nice bloom, Blaine. I really do like the fragrance this one puts out.
I think my Butterfly turned into a caterpillar. I can't find her anywhere, but I sure seem to have something like a cat eating my other brugs. LOL
Sylvia, 'you sure it's not grasshoppers? They are really tearing mine up this year.
Last year I had Butterfly in direct sun all day. She bloomed well, but her leaves always looked fried. (Zone 8 right on a/b line). I moved her where she will get afternoon shade this year. We'll see how she fares.
I've got to say Shirly's Forever Mor beats anything I've ever seen for standing up to our heat and humidity. I've only had one flower so far, but it was open all day long for four days running in record temps for this time of year....98 degrees.
Kay
That's good to hear, Kay. Thanks. For me tho, her leaves don't take the wind very well. That is the only draw back to her so far, but of course, our winds were 50 mph and I'm not sure many things can take that kind of wind. I am glad to hear that she is taking the heat so well tho.
Hey, Kay!!! If you ever have some extra Forever Morr cuttings, I'd love to try her!! If she will do well in your heat/humidity, she should do well here and she is a beauty!!
