Inanda, echoes, shawn........
Drool drool. Fraid not Pam. I tend to only buy hems from We're in the Hayfields Now or other trusted hybridizers because am sick and tired of getting hems that are not what I ordered. For instance GG of renown.!!! Most people seem to be happy with them, - not I!!!
A beautiful lily though - from the picture.

Edited to add -- Or plants which might be TC.

Your doing abbreviations again on me Ginny :)......you know I'm not that advanced. ;)
Thank you for looking anyways.......hopefully someone, or We're in the Hayfields Now, will be carrying it sooner or later.
don't you know GG stands for Guru Gardens,,
I too am not happy with them..
would never order from them again..
TC = tissue culture Pam -
Inanda running out to plant before it gets too hot. Hope your basement survived last night Pam.
Inanda
It did thanks Inanada........Moose Jaw's opening up the flood gates and letting 200 cubic feet of water/per second (I think) is flowing out. They will increase it again today if Alberta/High River keeps getting drenched. We are on the hill so chances of ours flooding is slim but the whole downtown area can suffer very quickly.
Yep. Winnipeg floodgates were opened wider today as well.
Inanda with many sibs in bloom.
Pam, check with Red Lane Gardens for El Desperado. If you don't see it ask.
Fern Glen Farm shows it in their Catalogue. They are in Ontario. Good luck.

Ü Thanks guys!!! Ü
p.s. I found Spacecoast 'Starburst' at our local Zellers........what do you think the chances are that it will look like it should??? ;) Paid $7.99 for it so thought it was worth the risk. ;)

Ginny,
If you're still watching this thread, can I ask some advice? Your comment about reputable hybridizers and TC struck a chord with me.
I've got an Edge of Darkness that is a different colour than it should be, according to the tag. This is my first year with daylilies, and I don't know what to look for....but could this type of anomaly conceivably be the result of TC or some other less-than-stringent cultural technique?
Would appreciate your comments whenever you have a chance. Thank you,
Shannon
Hey Shannon, who have ya been, girl? I have missed you. Glad to see you posting again. Inanda (Ginny) is in BC this week. She emailed me a couple days ago when I mentioned I was ging to be in Kelowna next week. She wanted to meet, but unfortunately, I won't be leaving until July 7. She was on her way to Summerland to pick up the VW van in Summeralnd on Thursday. She'll probably be home pretty quick now. So when she sees your post, I 'm sure she'll answer.
:Donna
It does look quite different, doesn't it. The eye parts have that notch in them, and it looks like the colour on the edge of the petals only goes part-way up. Still a beautiful plant, of course!
Interesting. That's frustrating, to pay $12-$16 or more for a plant, and get something other than what you had envisioned.
I bought mine at a nursery in Saskatoon, Dutch Grower's I think. Who knows where it was grown though. I thought maybe I had it in the wrong light conditions or soil or something.
Ginny recommended We're in the Hayfields Now.... I wonder what the general consensus is, on which other sources are the trusted ones?
I have a list somewhere that I got from a Hem collector last year, I'll have to search it out again. I got one good one from Valley K this year. Charles Johnston - just an old reliable red, but real good colouring on it. Have another one from there I'm waiting to see bloom. Another mil order purchase - Mystery Black was a total disappointment for me too this year.

Valley K - I'll check them out.
I picked up a couple from a small nursery on Vancouver Island, that were just labelled "Daylily - purple". I asked the people working there if there was any more info, but they clearly didn't know squat about hybrid names or botanical names - which in itself was somewhat of a disappointment. But I love purple flowers and the price was right, so figured it would be like a grab-bag with a surprise inside. No sign of a bloom-stalk yet unfortunately.
Go get your money back on that Edge of Darkness. At least let them know. We just create more of a problem for ourselves when we let the suppliers get away with this cheating. May as well just buy the grab-bag.
Good point. If I can find the receipt, I will. (Being a pack-rat, it's just a matter of time till it surfaces...lol)
Hi, Donna! Sorry, I didn't see your post til just now - I think I was busy composing one when you sent yours. Thanks for the warm welcome back :-) For me the last few weeks have been a blur of working evenings & weekends, studying for tests & exams and tossing and turning at night in our blasted humidity. I've been off DG for weeks - and now feeling a tad overwhelmed with all the threads to catch up on. One at a time, and the Canadian Forum is top priority. I was wondering how Ingrid's doing; haven't found any news yet but will keep surfing.
Thanks for letting me know Ginny's whereabouts. I didn't realize that she was still separated from her van. Hope all is well with you in BC these days. I saw the pic of your pink calla lily - looks really nice!
Shannon
Hi Shannon.
Well, the picture, of course, didn't do that Calla justice. It is a very pretty pink, but my crappy camera doesn't pick up pastels at all. Thanks away, though. :)
Sounds like you are "burning the candle at both ends!" Be careful now; don't overdo it. Listen to Granny Donna! :D
Haven't heard a peep from Ingrid, since just before Dillon's Mom's funeral. I keep thinking of her and hoping she's OK. So much nasty stuff happening to such a great lady. Tsk, tsk.. Thought I'd wait to hear from her rather that bug her just now.
Things are great in Beautiful BC, thanks. After an unusually cool and wet June, we have been having lovely hot temps over the past week or so. I sure hope they continue through the summer.
Take care Shannon, and remember, take it easy!
Hi Shannon,
Back on machine instead of going to deal with far too many weeds. TC hems are not stable. That means they start changing as the different generations are TC'ed. Hostas and lilium, OTOH are just fine and do not change.. Does this make sense? That is why I only buy hems from known and trusted suppliers. Have to add that this year have only bought one hem.
Inanda - out to try to control overgrown garden.
Makes sense to me.... thanks. I think I'll stick to hem specialists fm now on. Did you get your VW home ok?
