I have access to these ripe fruit-esp the lichees (such a short season) and am saving the pits.
Has anyone tried to grow them, if only for a tree?
Any help appreciated.
Planting info: lichee nuts, mango, papaya
Only in Florida. But you have to fight the squirrels for them.
I've gotten mango seeds to germinate quite easily. After cleaning off the pulp, I put them (one per pot) into a container of potting soil and keep it slightly moist. Most of them germinate in not too long. I haven't tried the others.
Thanks, will try the papayas. The info from the local public garden library resulted in not wanting to try the lichees-will just enjoy the flavor. Thanks so much.
Growing them in your zone is one thing. Getting fruit is quite another matter and unless you have a greenhouse for them over winter, I would be doubtful.
HI, just going to see what the plant looks like. No plans for a greenhouse and so much easier to get a couple of them during the season.
