when rooting

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

ok as you all can tell i am new to brugs....

i have recived some cuttings in a trade i have them sitting in my watergarden on my front patio, saw someone else do it on here somewhere, when the cuttings start getting the little white nodes is that when you plant or do you wait for actual roots to form?

thanks
anna

Either way will work fine Anna. Sometimes I wait till I see roots and sometimes as soon as I see the white nubbies I'll pot it up.
I keep them out of direct sun until they are rooted and keep the soil damp but not wet to prevent rot.

Welcome Anna to Dave's!! And to brugs. The first ones of many I am sure. I do not even put mine in water, I just put them in wet dirt and do not water again until the soil is on the dry side. Which colors did you get?

You can do a hoop house, Anna. You live in the same zone as I do. But you get so hot!! I am in the East Bay. How many frosts do you get in Elk Grove? A hoop house goes up in a day and down in a few hours. It is so inexpensive too. It is great for our zone. Though if I could, I would have have a GH too!

we had alot this year but usally one or two but see we have really wierd micro climates here some areas are even a zone14. My home is is boxed in on all but one side so i only had one really hard frost in which i lost my fav plant a Alocasia macrorhiza new guinea gold i think it wasi cried lol, i am able to over winter alot more then my friends that live next door . i asked my DH for a hoop house he dosent like how they look... i said ok then i want a GH lol

Anna, My husband finally gave in and got me a greenhouse after several winters of home made mini greenhouse's sitting all over the patio with christmas lights in them. I had also converted an upstairs bedroom into a plant room and florescent light fixtures ,racks and tables all over the room. He just couldn't stand the disray and finally got me the greenhouse. As you can tell he is compulsive about neatness. And although I like a clean house, my plants are every bit as important to me. So just keep plugging away , maybe you will get it one of these day's.

haha i am hoping

i really would like to convert the back patio but i wonder if the steam from the hot tub would be harmful to the plants not the steam its self but the chems in it
