I've been playing with the camera lately, after being so envious of Todd's, I thought I better see what my camera can do, if tested.
This is of a Rosamond brugmansia, about to open, with a hitchhiker.
pics of the past week
Great pictures LInda!!!!
Linda, your camera can compete with all of the big shot 8 mega pixels out there. The shots of your flowers were spectacular! I especially loved the mobisu x aborea brugmansia, poppy and the passiflora cerulea. You could put those ones in frames. Very nice. That sun was nice today, wasn't it? About time!
BTW, nice 5th wheel, spoiled lady! :D

I'm in love with your mobisu x aborea brugmansia Linda! Ü Gorgeous plants and pics.
OH WOW, that is spectacular, Linda!
I think I fell in love...
Does the mobisu x aborea brugmansia has a fragrance?
Quit teasing me Linda! ;)
Wow Linda! How long did you have to sit there to watch the epi open???
ggd
I was out smelling the mobisu x this evening, and could detect a very faint scent, was pleasent, but I can't describe it more than that, yet. It's quite small, only about 4-5" long, and the opening to the edge of the flower about 2", and seemed to fade in colour today.
The epi, I was suprised it opened so quickly, and early. It started around 5PM and was done around 10. The only other one I've seen started about 10:30, and I didn't stay up to see it in it's glory. I've heard so many people say they love the scent of these, but honestly, I can't say as I liked it's smell. Maybe it's an aquired thing...
There's another mobisu x going to bloom with in the week, and 2 more epi buds yet to flower, one in about 3-4 days.
ggd - I was out today and saw a stand of plants, I don't know what they are, but they have lovely large leaves, and I thought, hey, Glenda should look at these and try to cast them.
Linda
what a gorgeous Night-bloomin' Cereus, Linda! E
OK, I'll admit it, I am totally ignorant went it comes to Epi. Do they only bloom at night?
You know, they remind me of Christmas Cactus. The difference between one that lasts one night, and another that lasts a week and half is what? Age of plant? And the one that lasts a week and a half, is that still just blooming at night?
I think, and I'm only assuming here, that the difference of lasting one night or one week, is the different species. They are all cacti, or succulents, even I don't know the difference there. The pink one, that had lots of flowers, stayed open day and night, as did the red epi.
Rosemary, you out there??? you know the answers? Anyone else?
The night blooming cereus (if I remember the name correctly) is the queen that lasts only one night. White blooming epis will last much longer.
The epi flowers vary in size but some can be 8 inches across. Much showier than the Easter and Christmas cactus (the plant however, when not in bloom, is much, much uglier....known to give children nightmares;) It is also more difficult than the holiday cactus to have bloom set on it. It needs very cool spring temps for that to occcur. California and BC spring temps are best suited for it's needs.
Your epi is gorgeous Linda!
thanks Pam, I'm trying my best to stay for it to be full bloom, as it is a night blooming cereus.
Lovely pictures Linda. Your night blooming cereus is gorgeous. Did you grow it from a cutting? Jeanne gave me some cuttings which are all growing. I'm just curious to know how long I might have to wait for some blooms of my own.
I love the mobisu x aborea brugmansia too. I have a bud opening on my peach x red sanguinea. I guess it will be pretty similar to that. How's your plant doing? Do you have any buds on it?
Sandy
