I would LOVE some help, Barb! I just don't seem to "get it!" Like, where to start when trying to list what I have, etc.

What I did was go into Managing Catagories and set up another catagory titled Wishlist. That's where I put my wanted items.

When I have something to trade, I just pick the best catagory to put it under.

I think when someone else looks at our tradelist by clicking on our name, it only lists what we have for trade, what we have for sase and our wishlist. I don't think they see all the catagories.

To see the catagories, I think we have to go into manage our tradelist from the trading tab on the top.

I'm not sure about all this, trying to remember how I set mine up and how I now use it. I'm just throwing this out there for you to try.

Well, you're not the only one! I'm not having a lot of luck either.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Now that I looked at it after posting, I think I had to go into Manage your Tradelist through the tab, then set up the catagories I wanted through the manage catagories under the main menu. Then that's where I add the plants I have to trade. (Notice all mine are under perennials)

Since I'm just putting everything I have for trade under annuals, I didn't need all the other catagories I listed. I don't even have any orchids, so why did I put that in there?

If I were to set it up again, I'd just have 3 top level catagories:
Plants
Seeds
Wishlist

Under Wishlist, I would drill down and add two subcatagories
Seeds
Plants

Then I would put any plant I had to trade under plants, any seeds I had to trade under Seeds, and all my wishes under Wishlist in the appropriate subcatagory

I wouldn't put in the subcatagories I have under plants and seeds.

Okay, I'm either going to help you or confuse you.

Now I'm thinking that the catagories that I just professed to not want come already set up in the tradelist? Everybody seems to have them.

And, I now think I wouldn't have had to set up a wishlist catagory. I'm thinking that all you have to do is mark the status 'wanted'?

Looks like I need some tutoring too.

The hardest part is getting it going. Once you get one thing on there, you can zip right through it.

Go to the top and click on 'trading'.

Then click on 'manage your own trade lists'.

I cannot remember whether categories are already there or whether you have to add them. If you don't have any categories you have to go to back to 'manage categories' and put in the ones you want-perennials, annuals, rock garden, etc.

Then you should be able to click on a category and at the top you can 'add a new item'.

Try to get that far and let us know how it gets. There are times I wish we had a real simple Haves and Wants lists, but even those these are a little harder to figure out, you can link them to the PF and to pics, etc.

I found the easiest way is to go to PlantFiles. Find the plant you have or want, and click on "Add to Your Trade List". Choose from plants or seeds, etc. and then select from the dropdown if you want it, have it, etc. I always add to my list that way...

Ooh, Barb--your way sounds much nicer than trying my best to navigate the Trade Files. It's so hard. I'm trying what you've suggested!!!

And, to be fair and appreciative of your time, Badseed & JoanJ, I'm going to attempt learning the Trade Files, per your instruction. When I have LOTS of patience stored up & a glass of wine handy. ;-)

It helps to fill in all those blanks... common name, family, genus... like having all the work done for your.

AND, if the cultivar, etc. you want isn't listed in PlantFiles, choose another one and you can easily make changes before you add it to your list...

Barb

Where do I go to give comments on the people that I've traded with? ( like you!) *smile* Others have given ones to me, but I haven't figured out how to do that either. Know this probably isn't the proper forum, but since we're asking questions of this type ... ... THANKS Barb for any help!

If you click on their name, it will take you to their home page, and there's a place to read their feedback and leave your own for them.

Thanks!

JoanJ beat me to ya!

Barb,
I didn't even know it was raining till boss said so, he has the windows. I figured, great, don't have to water now, since it wasn't too hard! Monday at Niagara Falls was another story. Was hoping that my garden wasn't getting slammed like we were!! Was out early Tues AM checking on it too!! ~ Suzi :)

Barb is the winner on the info here! Again, with thanks to those who gave their time & advice too........the sophistication, apparently, is way above most of our heads! I'm thrilled to have learned SOME way to use the Trade Lists, and hope to get mine all lined up soon!

=) Owe you Barb!

Nah! That's what we're here for...

Barb

Lomita, CA(Zone 10a)

By the way, this is a great way to add all those great plants we see on the newsletter everyday to our wish list. And, whenever I get a new plant or seed catalog, I use it to update my wish lists!

Barb

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I just tried it that way. That is SO cheating! LOL I had to do it the hard way, long as I have been here. :)

Lomita, CA(Zone 10a)

Well, at least my way, i don't mess up the names... 'cause I am hopeless at remembering all the names...

Barb

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL Barb! You will have the most articulate have and want lists at DG! :)

Lomita, CA(Zone 10a)

And everyone will think I know what I'm doing... When, in fact, I just say, oh, that's nice I want that one...

Barb
