Rose in trouble?

Hawkesbury, ON(Zone 4b)

Some people don't like to weed, however it gives me a chance to have a closer look at my plants. I found these prickly things hiding on the underside of one of my David Austin roses, Mistress Quickley. Does anyone know if it is friend or foe?

Ok I give up. That did not work at all. It is a cluster of round prickly things. They are about the size if a pencil eraser and there are 10 - 12 in the cluster.

HI Hau.

I have a exactly same thing on one of my DA rose, golden celebration.
I was wondering what that is....

we've had them as well, I thought it was some kind of mutant growth

There must be a way to find out what it is. I would take it to the garden centre but I disposed of mine in garbage in case it was a disease. I will look further and let you know what I find out.

My guess would be some kind of gall from insects. I can't see the picture well enough, but I get galls on my Grootendorst sometimes. There are several types and sizes. I think it's from a little wasp. Cut those pieces off before the insects can mature.

Thanks echoes, I checked into the gall from insects and that is what it was. I am glad that I destroyed the leaves when I found it.

MG99 you best cut those leaves off as well.
